The girl with the sad eyes

2008 Words
Jett I told Connor my plan, and he called me crazy, but then he smiled and said, “But you are going to be my Alpha, so whatever you need from me just let me know. Plus I’m dying to kill some vampires.” So after Connor left, and Garrett had all the party planned out, I had two options. I could go up to my room with my girlfriend Ellie and release some stress, or I could go out in the woods for a walk. I sighed, I really did love Ellie, but lately, knowing that I was going to become the age where I could get my mate, it just didn’t seem right. Everyone was convinced that Ellie and I were mates. We grew up together and fell in love when we got older. Ellie says she has no doubts, that I won’t feel the mate bond until she’s of age, because it has to be her. I always believed her, but lately I’ve been scared.  What if it’s not her? What if I feel my mate bond for someone else? Or what if when she turns 18 I still don’t feel it? I could just be over thinking, still, I wanted to keep a little distance between Ellie and I. So I decided a run in the woods would be better. I was going to shift, but I also didn’t want to let my wolf Zeke have too much control, because then he would go to my room with Ellie.  I mind linked Connor to let him know I was going out for a bit. He wanted to come with me, but I also wanted to be alone. As I was walking in the woods I got lost in my thoughts. Ellie was the main subject. I couldn’t believe I was even doubting her. I was just so scared. I mean Ellie is perfect. She is sexy, and smart, and she’s always been there for me. She had such beautiful golden hair that when she would shift, even her wolf was that golden. Zeke would even go crazy for her.  Ellie hadn’t ever told me but I knew my mom would take her out sometimes, and prepare her for duties that come with being Luna. Ellie would make a perfect Luna. She was already loved by the pack, and she knew practically everybody, and everybody already protected her like she was the Luna. It was perfect. But why didn’t it feel perfect? Suddenly I picked up the scent of someone else. It smelled a little like death. I was so in my thoughts that I didn’t notice it sooner, but once I did I knew what it was. Vampire.  I could just do a sneak attack, but if it was one of the Constantine vampires I’d break the treaty, and as much as I wanted to kill vampires, breaking the treaty on a low rank vampire would ruin the plan. So I was going to turn around but suddenly I heard them shout. “Please just let me die. I don’t want this anymore. Please!” Her voice was crying out so sadly I couldn’t help but get curious. As soon as I moved a branch out of my way, I saw her standing in a strong stance, like she was ready to fight me. I also took a fighting stance, widening my legs and crouching down a bit, keeping my hands in front of me. I looked at her. Black makeup ran down her porcelain face. Her long black hair was curled and all over the place. Her red eyes bore into me like she was trying to be intimidating, but I could still see the sadness behind them. The sadness that just screamed for death.  “What’re you doing here?” I asked, making my voice as threatening as possible.  My voice didn’t even seem to faze her, she just sneered, and said “Me? You’re in my territory dog. What’re you doing here?” Was I actually in their territory? Had I traveled so far that I walked right into their lands? If it was, she must be part of the Constantine coven for her ‘territory’ to be so close. That meant she didn’t have permission to hurt me, the treaty wouldn’t allow it. So I stood up straighter, and put my hands down, but still showed that I was keeping my guard up, by not keeping my eyes off her.  “Well you can’t hurt me without breaking the treaty.” I said. She looked me up and down, and as she did I took that moment to do the same to her, taking in the way the red and black dress was clenched nicely around her shaped waist. I saw the dirt and tears that were at the edge of the dress, probably from being out in the woods. I made my way back to her face where her lipstick seemed to still be perfectly intact. My eyes went to hers, just as hers went to mine. She let go of her stance, and instead sat down on a boulder that was right behind her. She did it so elegantly, not even looking back. She just sat down and crossed her legs, putting one arm on her crossed leg, and using the elbow of her other arm to rest on her knee that was higher, while placing her chin in her hand.  “Do you really think that’s so? I mean if I hid your body no one would know.” She said softly, her voice melodic, airy, yet demanding. I didn’t know anyone's voice could be so many things at once. She wouldn’t take her eyes off me either. She was staring me down trying to stay dominant in the conversation, but there was no way I would let her.  I laughed, trying to get a reaction out of her. Maybe if she saw me laughing at her, she’d drop this act, but she didn’t even raise an eyebrow. “Oh come one.” I started. “A pretty little thing like you would never be capable of such bad things. Even if you were, I doubt you could take me on.” I gave her a wink for added measure, but she still didn’t change expressions, all she did was lean forward and say, “First of all, flattery truly gets you nowhere. Second, isn’t never underestimate your opponent, a very important fighting rule. And lastly, what are you still doing here? If you can’t tell, I want to be alone.” She let out a little hiss at the end of her sentence. Did vampires really have to hiss all the time? I saw her eyes, they were still trying to be intimidating, but no matter what she was saying, the sadness wouldn’t leave her eyes. I thought about what I heard her say earlier, and I couldn’t help but say out loud, “So you could kill yourself.” There, that got a reaction. Her eyes widened, and then narrowed. “It’s none of your business what I decide to do.” “Well my scent’s all over the place now. If you kill yourself they might blame me, and that’s no good. So why don’t you stop all the glooming or whatever you vampires do, and just go back to your coven, and I’ll go back to my pack.” She sighed. “I can’t. You don’t understand, he won’t forgive me.” she whispered, but I could still hear clear as day. She was just so damn sad, I couldn’t take it. I was always a sucker for pretty girls acting all down, and even though she was a vampire, there was no denying she was beautiful.  Still, I didn’t really want the conversation to continue. I rested my eyes on her necklace, and instantly recognized what it was.  “Why don’t you just go back to your coven, get your fiance and tell him you love him or whatever and that he’s the love of your life, and you’re sorry, and it’ll all be fine.” I said. Of all the reactions I had been wanting to get, this was the biggest. She practically flew as she jumped off the boulder screaming, “Don’t you dare call him that!” She was faster than I anticipated, and soon she was right in front of me taking a swing at me. Her fist made direct contact with my face, causing my head to snap to the left. She raised her hand again, but I caught it in time. She was also stronger than she looked. It was hard to keep her away. “Okay stop. I don’t want to hurt you, but I will if I have to.” “Same.” She said sharply, and swung her leg to knock me down, making me fall to my knees. I didn’t expect that either.  She let out an annoyed grunt, looked like she was going to walk away, and then spun around and offered me a hand.  “Should I really be taking that?” I asked. She rolled her eyes, “I shouldn’t have hit you. Just let me help you up before I change my mind.” I reluctantly took her hand, and as soon as I stood up, she pointed a finger at me. “Just don’t ever say that again.” I took a step back, “Woah sorry I called your fiancé your fiancé, you are wearing a necklace you know.” She reached up to touch the necklace and I could see water form in her eyes. I didn’t even know vampires cried before today. She dropped her hand as she spoke, “I know. Just don’t call him the love of my life.” I don’t usually pry on people's lives, but she was so interesting, I couldn’t help but say, “Then why are you marrying him.” She let out a laugh, “Oh trust me I don’t want to. But I have to, I’m forced into marriage by my father.” “Is that some vampire thing?” I asked. She met eyes with me again, this time softer, “Something like that. It’s complicated, but that’s why I don’t want to go back. But I know I have to” She was so open, I couldn’t believe it. I really wanted to feel for her. But as she started to tell me about her life the only thing I could think of was getting her to open up even more. What if I could get her to believe I wanted to be there for her, then I could get her to tell me about the attack on my father. Maybe she’ll give me the proof I need. Even if she doesn't, maybe she’ll let me know who will be taking the Vampire King's place. The pack hadn’t gotten any new information on the Constantine family in years. This girl was perfect.  Sure she was also a seesaw of emotions, one second hitting me, and the next spilling her guts, but I could take a punch or two if it meant I got her to give me more information. So I decided to play the role. I smiled at her and said, “Hey, it’s okay. Look I know it might suck, but if it’s some vampire custom I’m sure it’ll be okay. I know it’s hard trying to do all the traditions and customs, but once you do it it’ll be okay. I’m sure you and the guy will get along once you get to know him.” She looked at me and smiled. I saw her fangs stick out and I wanted to gag, but I didn’t let it show. Instead I focused on the fact that her smile actually made her red eyes twinkle, and look kinda pretty. I focused on the fact that she was falling for my trick.
