Before I knew it that stupid inflatable ball whizzed past my face . My eyes see every detail of the ball’s surface.
‘Jesus, Mary and Joseph!’ I mumble to myself.
‘Are you okay?’ Wilbur asked as he came up beside me. Concern etched upon his baby face.
‘Yeah all good, I still have my head attached so can’t complain.’ I smiled up at him. Not as tall as Emmett but still taller than me.
From the corner of my eye I see a flash of green.
‘Ugh’ came from beside me where Wilbur stood, but now he was on the floor with mud covering the front of his blue bib and with a splatter on his cheek.
‘oh Wilbur!’ I rush to help him up. Accepting my helping hand. Once he is back to standing up I wipe away the mud of his cheek as he looks off in the direction where the action of the game. ‘What happened?’
‘Not sure.’ Was all he said before the high pitched whistle cut him off.
‘Burrows! Haynes! Quit the lovey dovey shiz and get back to playing!’ Ms Hanson’s voice roared out. Earning laughs, giggles, stares and eyeballs from the other students.
That’s when I noticed that my hand was still cradling Wilbur’s cheek and, that now with us both facing each other, how close our faces are to each others with fresh pinkness upon our cheeks and I noticed on his ears as well due from Ms Hanson calling us out, and being the stars of the spotlight.
‘Sorry.’ I whisper as I draw my hand back.
‘It’s alright, don’t worry about it.’ He said slowly backing away.
‘Right everyone back to the game!’ Ms Hanson shouted just as she blew the whistle.
After a while of standing around and trying my best to help my team which just ended up with me on the muddy grass.
‘Right we are going to have to wrap this game up, five minutes left!’ Ms Hanson called. And right as she did.
The ball came flying at me again but this time it dropped right in front of my, old worn with holes trips and tears and now an off coloured white caked in mud, trainers.
My teammates call and yell attacked my ears ‘kick it!’ ‘Pass it here!’ ‘Over here!’ All coming from each and every angle, looking up I see Harley running at me with full force. Gulping, me chest started heaving butchering up my breathing and intaking of oxygen, feeling like no matter how much I breathe or how big of a breath that I am still laking for oxygen and to catch my breath.
Come on Phoebe you can do this. Clenching my hands into fist and closing my eyes while taking in a deep breath and opening them seeing the world in slow motion as I release, the next thing I know I am off running the ball moving from foot to foot. Feeling a smile spread on my face. I am doing it … I can’t believe I doing it! And while smiling.
Sadly my rain didn’t last long as Harley tackled the ball off me but not leaving before she accidentally knocked into me making me lose my balance and fall in the puddle that was homed right behind me. A smirk on her face as she zig zagged to the other side of the frying and scoring a goal. The green team erupts in cheers, all rushing to her.
‘End of game!’ Ms Hanson blew the whistle. ‘Congratulates green team. Good game blue team’ her eyes catching mine as she said the last part. With a soft hint of a smile, if I am not mistaken, on her face.
Laying on my back in the puddle, my P.E kit soaked through. Well I guess this is my life now. I’ll be one with nature. Splaying my hands around in the muddy water as I rest my head wetting my hair and scalp the water ending just before it can reach to go inside my ears, thank god.
‘Get up Burrows.’ Ms Hanson’s voice came from my left.
‘No’ I pouted. ‘There’s no need for the game over now.’
‘True, but I sadly can’t leave out here and I am now going to have to log your accident in the accident book.’ Her voice is getting softer.
‘But I am not hurt.’ I say opening my eyes and propping myself up on my elbows to face Ms Hanson. The dirty water splashing as I do so.
‘I know but I still have to log it, for you know just in case.’ Her hands resting on her hips. ‘
‘Come on Phoebe.’ Her voice is softer than its normal, harsher tone. Her skinny muscular arm out to me.
Sitting, I place my wet muddy hand in her clean and a bit wrinkled hand.
‘Sorry’ I mumble an apology for getting mud on her hand. As I stand up and get out of the puddle.
‘Its okay, one day you will score a goal. Don’t worry.’ She said as we began walking back to the school building.
‘That’s not what I was saying sorry -‘ I say stop walking.
‘I know’ she turned her head around to face me with a smile and walked away.
God did I die? It seems the only reason as to why Ms Hanson would be smiling, especially at me. But if I am not dead does that mean Ms Hanson is ill or sick? Oh god.
Once I make it into the building I am tackled to the wall.
‘For petes sake!’ I say as my wet point tail whipped me in my face, some going in my mouth.
Raising my hand to wipe away the remaining residue, with the back of my hand.
Looking up I am caught by Heterochromia eyes. ‘Emmett?’
‘Are you okay?’ His smooth voice reached my ears.
‘Oh yeah no worries.’ I smile, pushing off the wall to continue walking. Just to be pulled back by him holding onto my wrists.
‘Wait’ a rush of tingles travels up my arm to my spine and head. My eyes landed on his hand wrapped around my wrist.
‘What is it?’ I say a little irritated
‘I just want to make sure you’re okay.’ His face creased with concern.
Making me stop at trying to get away, I slowly start walking toward him. Once face to face I cup his perfect face in my very dried muddy hands.
‘There’s no need to be so worried I am fine, it's just mud that will wash off. It will all come out in the wash. I think though this white top might be stained, rip’
Enclosing his hands cupping my face as well with a smile on his face brightens it up. ‘Oh what am I going to do with you?’ He said before our lips met. Magic and bliss. Engulfing me in a fantasy as my eyes flutter closed.
If every time I do P.E I get this as reward I might start liking sports.
But too soon my happiness was ripped away.
‘Ahem!’ Came from the other side of the sports hall.
‘Oh.’ I say with a pout stepping away from Emmett and turning to face the person.
