11 FRIEND FROM THE PAST The next morning came quicker than Mary thought it would, rays of light shined down on her face through the hotel window, waking her from slumber. She turned over to her right, expecting Grant to still be beside her. She wasn’t too surprised when her hand felt nothing more than the empty sheets of the bed. She opened her eyes and saw a note left on the pillow next to her. Mary reached for the folded up paper without giving it a second thought she unfolded the note. Fear raced through her like a runaway train, this was not a note from Grant, but from her captors.
