TWO

After eating the delicious lasagna Edens mom had made for me I made a mental note to properly meet this woman and find out the recipe from her. Turning off the TV, I headed upstairs to read a little before sleeping. Reading was a must-do thing for me every day. I just couldn't go a day without getting lost in a book. My phone buzzed from next to me, signaling a received text. -Hey, it's Eden. Just wanted to make sure you had my number in case you needed it. How was the lasagna?- I smiled at the text, that was quite nice of her to do all these things for me. She was just being nice, right? -Appreciate it. Lasagna was mouth-watering, I'll have to meet your mom to find out the recipe! (:- That was neutral enough, I suppose. It took less than a second for her to reply. -Wanna come over?- I stared at the text, not sure what to think. There wasn't really anything to overthink, though, since she was just being friendly towards me. My phone buzzed again. -It's not a booty call, I promise. She baked cookies. They're the best.- I didn't even need convincing in the first place, but this for sure made me more excited, as I laughed at the text. -If you insist. Be there in 2. (:- I replied. I quickly got up and checked if I looked somewhat decent. I had taken my make up off before eating, but since I was still confident with myself, I didn't bother putting any on again. After all, a pimple or two don't really matter. I did change out of PJ's in leggings and hoodie though. Then I quickly made my way downstairs, putting on my shoes and making my way towards Edens house. Before I could knock or ring the bell, she opened the door, flashing me a smile and looking me up and down. Was she checking me out? Must be my brain messing with me. "Hey, again," I smiled at her. "Hey," she wouldn't stop smiling, but gestured me to come inside, "cookies are in the kitchen." Their house was as huge as mine, which said a lot. It made me wonder if she also barely ever saw her parents and if her home always made her feel as lonely as mine did. After all, to own a house so big means you needed to be rich, and from what I had learned in my life - to be wealthy, you had to sacrifice a lot as well. "You okay?" Eden asked, searching for something in my eyes. "Yeah, I was just checking out your house. It's really beautiful," I smiled at her. "Thanks," she smiled back, deciding to drop the subject, which I was thankful for. My eyes found the cookies, right after the delicious smell hit my nose. I could tell my eyes lightened up just from that. "We can watch something while eating, also I have a bottle of wine, if you want it," Eden said, pretty amused about the obvious change in my expression just from seeing the cookies. I nodded excitedly, "what are we watching?" We went to the sofa, but instead of sitting on it, we sat on the ground, supporting our backs against the sofa and placing the plate of cookies and glasses between us. "Anything you want," Eden handed me the remote. But we forgot about the TV as soon as we turned it on, I'd blame it on the cookies, but also we spent most of the time talking about random things, just getting to know each other. "So, last question," Eden said, her light blue eyes still making me feel some type of way. There was no reason to overthink it, it was probably the wine. I nodded, taking a bite out of the last cookie we had left. "Why are you dating that guy?" she looked at me intensely, noticing my shocked expression, "I mean, it's not hard even for a stranger to see that you two are far from being the couple you pretend to be." I didn't expect this question. What did Kevin have to do with us? But somehow, there was still a bigger question. Why was I? Now that I think about it, I couldn't figure out an answer myself. Eden supposedly sensed my struggle with the question. "Isn't it supposed to be an easy answer?" she chuckled. "Yeah, I guess it should be that way," I smiled as always, taking a bite out of a cookie. Smiling tended to bring me out of the most uncomfortable situations, so I guess eventually it had become an everyday routine. "You have cookie crumbs on your face," Eden said, smiling. But before I could wipe it off with my hands, Eden was already getting closer to me, her mouth just inches from mine. Why was my heart racing so fast? Why couldn't I avert my eyes from her lips? Why was I unintentionally moving closer to her? "I'm back, sweetie!" a feminine voice yelled from the entrance. That was enough for me to get kicked back to reality. But somehow, I still couldn't move, my body was staying stubborn to my brain. Eden's eyes traveled from my lips to my eyes, as she wiped the corner of my mouth with her thumb. She then got up, holding out a hand for me. I stared at it, but seconds later pulled myself together, taking it and smiling gratefully at her. "Oh, I didn't know we had visitors," a beautiful woman in her 40s smiled at me, "who is she, sweetie?" "That's Ruby, my new classmate," Eden replied, "Ruby, that's my mom." "I've told you multiple times that's not a proper introduction, Eden," her mom said and then turned to me, "I have a name, it's Lucy, but this little one tends to forget it. Nice to meet you, Ruby.." "Ruby Gold," I said, smiling at her/ "Gold?" her mom went from her quirky self to a more silent one, "I see." I got this reaction quite a lot. My surname was a statement itself, and it tended to leave an effect on people. Then Lucy switched back to her old self, smiling and looking between me and Eden. "Has Eden been nice so far?" Lucy asked, winking at me. This earned an eye roll from Eden, "mom, quit it. She has a boyfriend." Yet I seemed to have forgotten it for the past few hours. Not that I would ever say it out loud, especially since I couldn't figure out why. "Oh, that's such a waste," Lucy said, laughing as if she knew what we didn't. "By the way, thanks for the lasagna and cookies, it was delightful," I said smiling at Lucy, which she seemed quite amused by. "Eden? You want to tell me about a secret talent I never knew about?" Lucy smiled at Eden. I connected the dots myself. "Eden!" I laughed, "why would you hide that you made it?" "We all know, no one normally believes that a tattooed teenager has cooking as her free time activity," Eden groaned, "it's easier to say my mom made it. Besides, it saves up some time, knowing how many people would want to be my friends just because of my skills in the kitchen." "Yeah, because kitchen skills are not the ones you want to be known by," Lucy chuckled, munching on a cookie herself. I furrowed my brows in confusion, meanwhile, Eden groaned letting out silent curse words. "Mom, that's in the past, we're not in New York anymore, so don't bring it up," Eden shook her head. "Well excuse me if it's hard for me to forget about the girls screaming your name all night long. Anyways, I'll be back in a few hours, don't wait up," her mom laughed, leaving the room, also me with my mouth hanging open. So that's what she meant by Eden not wanting to be known by the skills in the kitchen... I laughed, trying to be as quiet as possible, Eden had turned around, seeming pretty upset about it so I went to her, patting her shoulder. "Hey, that's alright, I won't tell anyone," I comforted her, trying to find the right words. She turned around, once again us standing way too close to each other. I took a step backward, but she placed a hand around my waist pulling me back. I didn't protest. This was nothing special, right? I was this close to my fellow cheerleaders all the time. "I just didn't want you to know," she said, once again being quite blunt, "don't care about the rest." She probably didn't want to lose me as a friend as she had slept with quite a few girls, it was understandable. Friends should be worried about what the other thinks of them. Because that's all we are - just friends. "Hey, it's just past, we all have done things we aren't proud of," I smiled, comforting her. "Have you?" she pulled me even closer, her eyes once again traveling to my lips. So did mine to hers. Once again I could feel my heart beating quickly, and my mouth going dry. I could feel my skin getting hotter as well as me leaning closer and closer to her pink plump lips as if I was under a magic spell. "Not yet," I whispered, our lips brushing together. My body got hotter over the touch. I asked her for entrance which she granted, parting her lips. Our hands were all over each other. I just had to touch every bit of her body. I had to. She turned me around so that now I was the one with the back against the table, then she took me by my thighs, placing me on the table. Her hands never left my thighs, as well as her mouth never left mine, the whole thing only became quick and intense. Until my phone started buzzing from the pocket of my hoodie. I was quickly pulled out of the trance, taking my phone and replying to the phone call. "Yeah?" I asked, not aware of who was calling, due to the rush in which I had taken my phone out. Eden was still placing kisses on my neck and rubbing circles on my inner thighs. "Rubyyy, it's me, Kevinn," Kevin said, making me look at Eden, who had stopped placing the wonderful kisses on my neck. "Are you drunk?" I asked, my voice concerned. Maybe he wasn't the best boyfriend I could have chosen, but he was still my boyfriend of 2 years, someone I had known for ages, even if we had fallen further apart. Instead of getting a proper reply, I only heard a cuss, loud noise and then the call was ended. I sighed, putting the phone back in the pocket. "Everything alright?" Eden asked. "Perfect," I said, pulling her back to me, ignoring the fact that it totally wasn't, but I would deal with it tomorrow.
