RED POV.
"Sister-in-law?" The word left my lips in a pathetic, breathless squeak, making my knees start to give out and if Carlton hadn’t caught my upper arm in a tight firm grip, I would have my face planted onto the wet gravel by now.
I stared at the red creature standing at the edge of the tree line. It was the size of a damn vehicle, its thick red fur rippling under the moonlight, those molten gold eyes fixed entirely on me.
It,or she in this context let out a low huff, turning its head opposite me and staring at Carlton before bowling its head all the way down, then slowly lifted it as a puff of air escaped its nose up in the night air, before it slowly turned and disappeared back into the shadows of the forest like a ghost
."Get in the car, Red," Carlton grunted, his voice dropping into a rough command as he practically scoped me off my feet, shoving me into the back seat of the SUV before sliding in right next to me.
The heavy door slammed shut, leaving us alone in the dark, suffocating space of the vehicle.
Carlton started the engine and the SUV bolted down the dark, winding forest road.
My heart was hammering so loudly against my ribs that I was certain it was going to crack them open soon.
I pressed my back hard against the leather seat, staring at the side of Carlton’s face and for some reason, he looked entirely calm, adjusting his expensive silver cuffs as if i hadn’t just seen the highest fury animal beside a lion in my entire life!
And it had a name? His sister? Was he like that too?was Calvin like that too?
Apart in a medieval ceremony in a haunted church surrounded by giant monsters?
This isn't real, i am just having a psychotic break!
I think frantically, my hands shaking hard against my thighs that I have to bury them inside my coat pocket.
Calvin's father has to be a cult leader. He drugged me!!
That wasn't a real wolf. It a sure it was a mere illusion. It's a—
"It's not an illusion.and quit your excessive rants!"Carlton snapped gravelly, his voice cutting through the silence of the car like a physical blow, bringing my thoughts to a stop.
He doesn’t turn his head to look at me, he just kept his eyes fixed on the dark road ahead, his jaw tightening into a rigid, dangerous line but after a few seconds, his words registered in my head, making me freeze as my lungs once more completely starve of air.
"What?" I squeaked out.
“I already told you inside the temple,i can hear you and everything you think. So please, would you f*****g keep it down. You giving me a headache with all that mantra fuckery rushing through your head.” He said in an annoyance holding a dark, mocking edge bleeding into his tone.
Then turned his head away from the road, staring at me, causing his intense green eyes to lock onto mine through the thin lightness of the car.
I gulped, unable to process his actions but staring back at them upclose, they there was some sort of strong strange dominant energy radiating off him that made every cell in my body want to explode yet also beg for mercy at the same time.
“Every frantic, pathetic thought bouncing around in your little human skull... I hear it. After that blood pact, our mind link sealed for eternity. You are officially bound to the Red Arcade. So get used to shutting up inside there more often ."
A sickening wave of terror crashed over me.
He really could hear my thoughts!.
The realization and weight of it hit me like a train, and with it came a sick paralyzing spike of panic that nearly made me vomit.
If he could hear my thoughts, that meant he could hear the truth. The could hear that I had lied about..
I cleared my throat, trying my best to keep myself out of my head for now but a wave of guilt just kept pushing me back in.
He's really going t to find out. He's going to find out about Calvin. He's going to see the baby isn't his—
“Stop!" I screamed out loud, pressing my palms against my temples as if I could physically block him from being in my mind.
"Get out of my head and just stop doing that!” I cry out.
But he just lets out a low rough rumble like it echoed from the bottom of his chest, it was a sound that almost didn't belong to a human throat.
He leaned across the seat, his massive muscled shoulders frame consuming the space until his body heat was almost suffocating me.
He reached out, his large, rough hand clamping firmly around my jaw, forcing my face up so I had no choice but to look into his green blazing eyes.
"You should have thought about the impossibility before you walked into my bar with that shimmy dress. Rredinson Carla Paige," he hissed, his thumb digging into the flesh of my cheek as his grip deepened.
"You wanted a rich man to take responsibility for a liability? You wanted a check big enough to solve your little poverty problem? Well, congratulations. You got the King. But the rules of my world carry a much higher price than a piece of paper." He hissed out, as if spitting the words in my soul.
My throat tightened as a choked sob caught up in my chest.
I stared at him, my mind frantically trying to force itself into blank silence.
I had to bury the memory of Calvin as whatever had to do with him.
."Why did you do it?" I whispered, my voice cracking with a mixture of raw fear and anger.
"If you knew I was lying from the first night... if you knew I was just some fake w***e, why did you let me seduce you? Why did you bring me to that altar?" I cried out, trying to make sense of everything.
Slowly, he loosened his grip on my jaw, his large fingers trailing down the column of my neck before resting heavily over my collarbone, right above the racing pulse of my heart. His expression hardened into a thick mask of expectation.
."Because my pack needs a Luna, Red," he stated coldly, his green eyes scanning my pale face in a possessive glare that almost made my blood run dead cold.
“The former Luna died childline decades ago. And just recently, all elders have been demanding an heir to protect my werewolf bloodline before any more pack wars tear our territory apart. You brought a pregnancy to my doorstep and offered me a legacy. I don't care who you really are, or what dirty little secrets you're running from in New York because from now on, You will wear my ring now, until you birth the next Alpha of the Arcade Linage."
The car sharply veered through a massive set of iron security gates, pulling up to a grand, sprawling estate that was supposed to be my new home, but felt like a my new prison.
He put the car in park, the heavy silence of the mansion grounds settling over us.
Carlton stepped out of the SUV, not even waiting to see if I would follow as I dragged my weak, trembling legs out of the back seat, staring at his broad back as he walked up the stone steps of the mansion.
My mind was now short-circuiting all over again. He wanted an heir for his pack, his bloodline?
A pup to talk after him..
But what about Calvin? Wasn’t he supposed to be his next of kin or something.
“What about Calvin?” I said, making his stop in his trucks just before he stepped through the door.
Pausing, he turned around, looking around as if checking there someone was around before he walked up to me saying,
“Calvin.. Calvin isn’t my blood son.”
