Chapter11

The beauty of the house continued on the inside. There was a staircase that led to the next story but didn't block the view of the living room from the kitchen area. The kitchen was done with a chef in mind. The cabinets went to the ceiling in white with gold knobs. The pan rack hanging over the large island with a sink was a copper color. The backsplash was a mosaic tile pattern that broke up all the white in the kitchen. The countertops were done in butcher block and the island as well. Off to the right of the door was a room with french doors that blocked it off from the rest of the house and also had another set that led to the porch as well. The room also had an adjoining bathroom. Going upstairs, the second floor had 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. On either side of the hallway, two rooms connected with a bathroom in the middle. The last bedroom was an amazing master suite. The suite had walk-in closets on either side of the bedroom and the attached bathroom had a shower with programmable shower heads and a claw-footed tub with a television mounted on the wall across from it. The attic was an open space that looked like it could be changed into anything. Heading back down the stairs, they found the basement entry and it was like its own apartment. Victoria took them out the back door to show them the rest of the property. There was a shop not far away that had been set up to be an auto body shop. The shop even had an intercom system to the house. "Why didn't you show us this one first?" Brandon asked as they finished the tour. This house more than fit his needs. He'd noticed how Cait's eyes had lit up at seeing this house versus the others. He knew his CPA was going to give him a lecture about his spending, but what's the use of having money if you don't spend it, making others feel safe? "Well, it's slightly outside of the distance you specified."Cait would have to get up a little earlier to make it to work on time, but for the views and luxury of this house, she'd gladly suffer the wake up. "What would it take to make this house mine?' Brandon asked as they got back to the front of the house. "Would you be financing or buying straight out?" "Straight buyout," Brandon said without blinking. "The owners want to move to Florida as soon as possible. They are asking for $175,000." "That sounds reasonable. Here is my CPA's number. I'll give him a call letting him know to expect your call." Cait was left standing there as both Victoria and Brandon made their respective calls. "Who's ready for an early dinner?" Brandon asked as he got off the phone with his CPA. "Wow, Brandon. Are you sure you want to buy this house?" Cait would love getting to live here but knew it wasn't a permanent home for her or the baby. What would Brandon do when they moved out? "Don't argue with a man who knows what he wants, Cait, especially one who can afford to buy this straight out." Victoria gave him a side-eyed look of approval. "Only an i***t would pass on such an amazing house." The car ride to a local restaurant was filled with Victoria and Brandon talking about closing details and what to expect for the next steps. The meal went amazingly. Everyone toasted on the buying of the house and the baby. Victoria claimed the title as the unofficial godmother to the baby, and Cait told her there was no one else she'd want to hold that title. Victoria agreed with Brandon on her seeing an OB/GYN as soon as possible. To ease their nagging, Cait called to schedule it for the following day. Victoria had put her foot down and told Cait she would be staying with her until the house was ready to be moved into. Victoria gave Brandon an address for a storage place where she kept extra units for house buyers waiting for closings to finalize. By the time they got back to the hotel, Cait had fallen asleep in the passenger seat. Brandon didn't want to wake her so he gently picked her up and carried her into the hotel. Once they reached the door, he woke her up enough to have her scan the door open. Once inside, he set her on the bed giving her a light kiss on the cheek. The next day, Cait was a ball of nerves. The fear of not being a good mother was hanging over her head. She'd be moving into Victoria's extra room later today. She'd had a hot date last night and Cait hadn't wanted to intrude. Brandon was his usual cheery self when he knocked on her door. Cait had been to nervous to eat anything. They arrived early to the doctor's visit and the nurse took her back to run lab work. When they went back to talk to the doctor, she talked about her lab results and checked Cait over to make sure everything was going as it should. The test results showed that Cait would need to monitor her blood sugar. Brandon followed Cait into the exam room and asked lots of questions. As the visit came to a close, Dr Patel gave Cait some pamphlets and websites to visit. "Would you like to hear the baby's heartbeat?" Dr Patel asked. "Isn't it too early?" Cait asked. "No, we should be able to pick it up." Dr. Patel brought out a device that looked like an iPod with a stethoscope. She explained that it was called a doppler. Brandon turned his head while Cait lifted her shirt. The doctor put some cold gel on Cait's stomach and began to look for the baby's heartbeat. Brandon turned back around when he heard the unique thump sound of the baby's heart. Cait began to cry at the sound of hearing the baby for the first time. Brandon recorded it so they could share it with Tyler later. As the doctor began cleaning the gel off of Cait, Brandon leaned over and gave her a hug thanking her for letting him be a part of this. "Alright, mom and dad, any other questions for me?' "OH! It's not like that. Brandon is the uncle." Cait said as she disengaged from Brandon's hug. "I'm sorry I just assumed. Please schedule an appointment for next month. If anything feels unusual or you start spotting, come see me or, if it's after hours, the hospital as soon as possible." Brandon reached out to Tyler on their way to lunch. Now that her fears about the baby had been relieved, Cait was starving. She'd even sent him the video of Cait hearing the heartbeat. Brandon was subconsciously wondering what it would have been like if he had been the father of the baby. Hearing the baby's heartbeat had made the process all the more real. He now knew why some of the guys at the shop had seemed to do a complete 180-degree change when they found out they were going to be fathers. Brandon wanted to start decorating a nursery as soon as they had the keys to the house. Brandon was looking at Cait's food cravings for clues on what gender the baby might be. Cait picked a family-owned Mexican restaurant for lunch. She picked a taco salad and watered-down sweet tea. Brandon picked the fajita nachos. They chatted with Tyler in a group chat until their food arrived. Tyler was just as excited about the baby as both Cait and Brandon were.
