"Is there something you need, Raellyn?"he said without looking up. Her fingers tightened around the small box behind her back. Should she say what he wanted to hear? Or just hand him the gift and get it over with? Still she stood. Silent. Torn. The gift in her hand felt suddenly foolish. He looked up when she didn’t move or respond. "Well?" he asked again, more pointedly this time. “Why are you just standing there? If you're not here for anything important, you know where the door is.” His voice was clipped, businesslike. Like she was nothing more than another employee. "I am here for something," she said, steadier now. "Just give me a moment." She took a shaky breath. He leaned back slightly in his chair, skeptical. Waiting. "I saw a watch today," she began, her voice soft, unsure.
