"Where are we going?" I asked when we got out of the park. She is heading to the building at the far end of the campus.
"To my class."
"What? Why?"
She looked disappointed. "Where have all your brain cells gone? Of course. If you will be dating me, you'll start walking me to my class, spending your break time with me, and going home together. How else would you get a girl to date you?"
"I didn't know that. Kiera and I got together because she said we should be together. So, I didn't really do all those stuff to her."
She nodded like she understood something. "So, that's why she could leave you that easily."
My forehead creased. "What do you mean?"
She sighed. "I meant, she wanted you back then, so she decided that you should be together. Now, she decides she didn't want you anymore, so she leaves you. Just like that." She shrugged. "You know, both of you didn't work that hard to be in a relationship, so it's easy for her to let it go. In this world, if you want something to last, it would take effort and hard work to get it. Anything you get so easily, you could lose so much easily. It's that simple. Why? Because you wouldn't appreciate it because you didn't exert any effort in getting it. You didn't work hard for it, so you wouldn't see how important it is to you," she preached.
"Now that makes sense," I agreed. "I think I'm gonna learn a lot from you."
She laughed. "I'll require your payment for that."
"Sure. How about we go out for snacks after your last class?"
She thought for a while. "My last class ends at 4pm. You?"
"Mine ends at three. So, text me your room number for your last class and I'll wait for you outside your room?" I handed him my phone, the dialer on the screen.
She smiled. "That was smooth. I didn't expect that." She took my phone, dialed her number and gave it back to me.
I pressed the call button and waited for her phone to ring. "Just making sure you gave me the correct number. And so you can save mine too."
She fiddled with her phone. I can see she was already typing my name on her contacts. "Put a heart on it. So you won't forget that you're in love with me."
She shook her head. "Not yet. We're still on the courting stage aka getting to know you stage. So, I shouldn't be in love with you yet." She put her phone back to her jeans' pocket. "But you're in love with me." She smiled.
We took the stairs up to the third floor of the building and stopped in front of the fourth classroom. There are only a few students there and still no sign of their professor. "It's still 12:45. Our class starts at 1pm, so some of my classmates aren't here yet." She looked inside the room and I saw a couple of students waved at her. "What time's your next class?"
"I'm vacant until 2pm. Are they your friends?" I asked. I can still see them looking at us, a little intrigued.
"Yeah. The only real ones."
I don't know if I'm to believe what she said but I want to know if it's true. "That's not a lie. Isn't it?"
She laughed. "I'd lose them if I lied about them. So, yeah. That's not a lie. They've been my friends since I was a kid. They're the only constants in my life that's full of variables. They know more about me than I know myself."
"I'll believe you," I said even though she's not asking.
"You'll need to work extra hard in making them believe we are really going out together, though." Her tone turned serious all of a sudden. "People here won't believe me when I say that we're dating. So, it's up to you to make them believe it was true."
"You won't tell your friends about our real situation?"
"I'll tell them, of course. What I meant is for the rest of the students in my class as well as in the whole building and in the whole campus."
I nodded. I understand that in order for Kiera to know that I'm dating someone else, every one in this university should believe that Blair and I are really going out. If nobody believes it, then no one will take it seriously and Kiera won't hear about it.
"Ms. Gonzales, please get inside the room." An old lady walked by us and entered the door in the front of the room.
She smiled. "That's our professor. So, see you later?"
I smiled back. "See you later." She was about to enter the room. "Blair?" She looked back at me. "Nice meeting you."
Her smiled widened. "It was nice meeting you too."
