Chapter 1
HANNA
I really wanted to find a job that paid enough so I wouldn't have to worry about my mother's medication. My mother has a serious illness, and her medications are very expensive.
After I woke up, I took a quick, warm shower, put on formal clothes, and headed out once again to look for a job, leaving my mother in the care of Mrs. Sueli, our neighbor and my mom's friend.
After hours of walking with no success, I stopped in front of an employment agency with a babysitting job ad. I didn't waste time going in, applying for the position, and returning home.
The next morning, I woke up to my phone ringing and rushed to answer it.
xxx: Miss Rodriguez?
Hanna: That's me. Who is this?
Lucia: My name is Lucia. I'm speaking on behalf of Mr. Alencar. You applied for a babysitting position, correct?
Hanna: That's right.
Lucia: Your interview is today at 2 PM, is that okay?
Hanna: Of course. The address?
Lucia: I'll send it to you via message. Don't be late, Mr. Alencar doesn't like delays.
Hanna: Alright, thank you. I'll be there.
As soon as I hung up, I did a celebratory dance and went to see my mother and made our breakfast.
When I finished, I prepared a tray and took her breakfast to her room, knocked on the door, and entered.
Hanna: Good morning, mom.
Lilian: Good morning, my love, why are you so happy?
Hanna: I have an interview today at 2 PM. I'll see if Mrs. Sueli can come stay with you.
Lilian: Don't bother her with that, my daughter, I'll be fine.
Hanna: Mom...
Lilian: Just go, my girl, I'll be fine.
Hanna: Alright, I won't be long.
Even though I don't want to leave her alone, I accepted her request and tidied up the house so I won't be overwhelmed later.
