XVII Promissiones ‘Promises’ The sun had been shining and warm for days now, along the line of Roman camps from the wall of Antoninus all the way to the Dragon’s Lair. There had been no more fighting with the Caledonii, though patrols still went out at regular intervals. Time was given to the men for healing, further training, and the shoring up of defences. Troops from the legions encamped at Horea Classis repaired roads, defensive works, forts, and signal stations from the sea to the highlands. The quiet routine felt surreal to many of the troops, especially to the Ala III Britannorum Sarmatiana and the Votadini.
