Pearl
The council called an emergency meeting.
Too many rogues. Too many questions. And now… too many Alphas circling me like I was a prize to be won.
But I wasn’t a trophy. I was the fire no one could hold without burning.
I walked into the war hall in black. No jewelry. No crown. Just skin, scars, and steel in my eyes.
Ezra was already there—seated in the Alpha’s chair, but his shoulders tense.
River stood near the window, arms crossed, watching me like he could see through the mask I wore.
The elders quieted as I approached.
“We need unity,” one of them croaked. “The pack is divided.”
“Then tell the pack to choose,” I said. “Not between Ezra and River. Between the past and the future.”
Ezra stood.
“Pearl—”
“Don’t. You’ve had your chance. You wasted it.”
His jaw clenched.
“Then what do you want?” he growled.
I walked up to him, close enough that the heat between us could've ignited the air.
“I want a partner. Not a master. Not a mate who decides my worth, then walks away. I want someone who sees me—all of me—and still stays.”
Ezra stared, wounded but silent.
Then River stepped forward.
“I never left.”
“You never told me you were alive,” I shot back. “You let me grieve you while you trained in shadows.”
“I wasn’t ready. But I am now.”
Two powerful men.
Two broken promises.
And one woman standing in front of them—whole, hungry, and done waiting.
“You both want me. But I won’t be claimed like a piece of land. You want me? Earn me. Fight beside me. Bleed for this pack. Love me out loud. Or walk.”
I turned my back on them both and walked away, the room stunned into silence.
I didn’t need a mate to rule.
But I’d take a warrior brave enough to choose me fully.
Ezra
River was smug. The elders were confused.
But me?
I was starving for her.
Not just her body, not just her kiss. Her fire. Her fury. Her crown.
“Let her lead,” I said.
The whole room turned.
“She’s right. This isn’t about who gets to mark her. This is about who’s worthy to follow her.”
For once, I didn't speak as an Alpha.
I spoke as a man ready to stand behind the Luna he once broke.
And maybe… love has to begin from the ashes.
