Luna in Chains, Alpha on Fire

Pearl I didn’t sleep. How could I? Ezra’s scent still clung to my skin like wildfire smoke — impossible to wash off, harder to ignore. And worse? My wolf was quiet. Watching. Waiting. Like she knew something was coming. At dawn, I slipped out of bed and into a robe, pacing my room like a caged thing. I needed air. I needed space. But I didn’t even make it to the hallway. Two guards stood outside my door. New ones. “Alpha’s orders,” one said stiffly. “You’re not to leave your room alone anymore.” My blood went cold. “Excuse me?” “Safety precaution,” he added quickly. “Not a punishment.” But it felt like punishment. Like being claimed, caged, and silenced all over again. “Tell your Alpha,” I said with a tight smile, “that if he wants to control me, he better come do it himself.” Ezra She was going to kill me. Or I was going to let her. The Elders had threatened rebellion over my “unstable Luna.” The warriors were murmuring about her boldness, her bite. They didn’t understand that that was why I chose her. She wasn’t built to be tamed. She was made to rule. And still... I gave the order. Not because I wanted to keep her locked up — but because something wasn’t right. There had been a rogue scent outside the pack walls last night. Faint. Familiar. Someone’s watching her. Not just me. And if it’s who I think it is, we’re both in danger. Pearl He showed up ten minutes later. No guards. No fake smile. Just that heavy presence that filled the room like thunder. “You sent guards to my door,” I snapped, arms crossed. “You’re not safe,” he said bluntly. “There was a rogue sighting.” “So? I’m not helpless.” He stepped closer. “I know you’re not. But someone was close to your scent line last night. Too close.” I paused. That wasn’t just jealousy or control. That was fear. Real fear. “Who?” I asked. He looked at me then — really looked. “Someone from your past.” Something twisted in my stomach. My wolf stirred. “Ezra… who?” “The boy you used to sneak out to meet. The one you said vanished.” My mouth went dry. He wasn’t supposed to be alive. “River?” Ezra nodded slowly. “He’s back. And he’s not here to play nice.”
