KATE POV
I arrived back home in the evening after my visit to the coffee shop, visibly annoyed. Even Chloe, who had initially planned on leaving from there to get some stuff at the grocery store, had to change her mind and accompany me home. She chastised me about my overreaction at the coffee shop while I maintained that it was necessary for me to respond and stand up for myself the way I did, especially since the man was a rude jackass.
“Some of these men with a few coins in their pocket like to think they’re the next best thing after pizza. It’s important to put them in their place sometimes,” I argued defiantly.
Upon entering our sitting room, we found grandpa and James sitting shirtless in the sitting room. Grandpa looked a little apprehensive on the sofa, his face visibly worried.
“Where did you go, honey?” he asked frailly, although his feeble-looking eyes had immediately lit up upon seeing me.
“One moment you’re there with me on the couch, then I close my eyes, and you’re gone. I was worried sick. You’re fine?”
“I’m fine, grandpa.” I went closer to him to give him a quick hug.
James stood up to kiss me. He smelt of Soda. He ran a hand through my hair and said.
“Who had you all riled up this evening?”
Chloe rolled her eyes
While grandpa paused and threw me a second glance after James said, “You’re not fine.” He declared, immediately turning to Chloe.
“Tell me, did she get into a fight?”
Chloe and I responded simultaneously. Chloe had said, “No,” while I said, “Yes.” Then she flashed me a stare that said, “Have you gone nuts?” I ignored her; there was no need for lying. Grandpa could read me like a book; there was no point in masking what was already in open glare.
“Yes, I did.” I admitted.
“What?” James exclaimed while grandpa looked on curiously
“There was this strange guy at the coffee shop.”
“A guy?” James interrupted..
“Yes,” I said.
“A wealthy, middle aged, handsome-looking dude,” Chloe added, now going all out with the details.
“Could you please let her speak?” James turned to Chloe, waving a hand. They were both cats and dogs, none of them could tolerate themselves.
“If we must tell the truth, then it should be the whole truth,” Chloe maintained, looking like she was having fun.
“Then let her be the one to tell the f*****g truth!” James raised his voice.
“Alright guys please don't fight please. I’m just coming from one already.” I pleaded, regretting why I even told them at all
“He was just rude, that's all.” I added
“Kate darling, please don’t make any trouble with these guys, will you? Some of them can get really crazy. I don’t want that for you. All they value is their wives, their kids, and family business.”
“But, grandpa, the man got on my nerves, and I think he did it on purpose. Even after I apologized for his error, his only response was to insult me.”
“It's okay honey, it's fine,” James said, kissing my forehead.
"I wish I was there, I would have put the bastard in his place.”
“It's ok to stop talking.” He whispered, taking me into his arms.
Later that evening while sitting up on my bed, James came to join me on the bed, with a glass of wine carefully placed on a tray with two glasses.
“Still angry?” He asked with furrowed eyebrows.
“Not really, just a bit moody that's all”
He took a deep breath and said
“Come here.” I leaned forwards and he placed a kiss on my forehead.
“Here, have it, this will help.”
“Alcohol?”
He laughed and said
"smell it. It’s non-alcoholic. Don't worry, I know what you like.”
I took a quick sip to check and he was right, it did not have the strong taste of alcohol.
“So how are you planning for tomorrow?” He asked, rubbing one of his arms.
I yawned, feeling the strong urge to sleep. I took another gulp of the glass.
“Erm.. yeah..doing my best.”
“Will you be moving on Monday?” He asked.
I scratched my head I could barely see now, I shifted towards him and lay on his legs.
I could not understand why I had begun to feel so dizzy.
