Chapter 2 You Can't Go Back To My Brother

628 Words
As soon as the two departed, Anabelle received a message from Noah. The short sentence turned into a cold shiver of fear running through her. Noah: When you return home, be a good girl. Take a bath and wait for me. Anabelle: I thought we were done. What's the deal? In the car, Noah glanced at the message, his fingers subtly tracing the phone's edge. After hearing Faith's question, Noah closed his eyes lazily. "Do you?" "Three years ago, Anabelle Blair's father killed someone. She had broken up with your brother Nathan at that time, but she waited outside the Evans Manor all night, begging for Nathan's help." "You know a lot about her." His tone stayed chill, but his face went dark. "Of course, Nathan and she were so crazy about each other. I wonder how her father turned out." Noah simply snorted. That year, Anabelle had tossed her pride for Nathan's help, but Nathan, for the sake of family reputation, ghosted her. He still remembered that Anabelle, a haggard, fragile, yet beautiful Anabelle. So beautiful that she settled in his heart. After Anabelle agreed to his conditions, it took him just one night to change her father's sentence from life imprisonment to five years. Faith, clueless about his thoughts, saw him close his eyes again, assuming he was beat. She figured a shoulder rub would help. "Burning the midnight oil again last night?" While massaging, Faith accidentally popped Noah's collar, noticing vivid scratches on his shoulder. Noah slept with another woman?  Weirdly, she thought of Anabelle, whom she'd only met once. Thinking about it,  she dialed the mysterious call. It was late when Anabelle returned home. She turned on the living room light, only to be startled by the sudden appearance of a man on the sofa. Before she could react, Noah rushed over, slapping a stack of pics on the coffee table. They were old pictures of Anabelle and Nathan. She was aware of Noah's possessive nature because every time he saw those pictures he would go crazy. But on a second thought, they were to break up anyway so Anabelle chose to keep silent. Emanating a creepy vibe, Noah rubbed her chin, smiling lightly, but a chill lingered in his eyes. "Are you happy to leave me because you want to get Nathan back?" Anabelle shot back, "We're done. My life ain't your business." "True. I'm just... warning you," Noah lied, avoiding eye contact. "What do you think Nathan would feel if he knew about us?" Anabelle snorted, "So why did you come to me? Your body craving me?" "I like it when you're being so sharp." Noah looked down at her rosy lips. "You must be mad at me. Thought I didn't perform last night, huh?" Noah obviously cared a lot about her comment, "Not that good." "Noah Evans, what do you want from me? You're about to wife up that girl!" Anabelle protested. But Noah remained indifferent. "She'll be my wife, not my boss." Anabelle didn't know what to say. While she was in a daze, Noah had already undone her coat. Warm breath hit her ear. "Cursing me or hoping I'll do better?" Anabelle was caught off guard, and her shoulders trembled. Sensing Anabelle's quiver, Noah curved his lips. Biting her lip, Anabelle tried to use pain to kill her desire, but Noah turned his head slightly and lightly grazed her lips. Anabelle instinctively relaxed her teeth, raising her chin to kiss him. Unexpectedly, Noah immediately stepped back, mocking, "Knowing that I have a fiancée and still wanting to kiss me? I thought you didn't like engaged men." Noah stood there, mused at Anabelle, and stressed each word. "I can break up with you, but you can't get back to Nathan."
