Chapter ThirteenMason woke to the sound of fighting, gunfire echoing through the room, and he felt the bite as if it were his own skin it tore through. He was up on his feet before he was fully awake, charging out of the bedroom and down the stairs. He ripped the door open, blinking in the bright sunlight, squinting and holding his hand up to shield his eyes as he tried to find the source of the gunfire and the pain. Alaric's mother was at his side a moment later, grabbing his arm. “Alaric's hurt,” she said softly, her voice trembling with fear. Mason nodded. “I know.
