Chapter 1.
“Did my boyfriend just f**k Adora?”
Kira sat in her bed, staring at the raw, naked video of her boyfriend’s fingers slipping in and out of the lady’s wet cunt in ways it had never done with hers before.
Last night, she and her boyfriend had spoken over the phone, gisted, giggled, and even talked about places they could visit before the end of their school holiday. Only for her to wake up this morning to the trending videos of her boyfriend cheating on her with the queen bee of their school, on their school site.
Tears formed on Kira’s lids as she stared at the whole video that made her heart ache like a dagger was being pierced into it.
It hurt and maybe…just maybe, her heart was breaking because this same boyfriend had never touched her before.
He claimed that she was a good girl and s*x was illicit, that having it outside marriage was wrong, only for her to wake up one morning to a trending video of her boyfriend acting full-blown porn with her most ruthless enemy.
Kira sniffed, the tears in her eyes, and placed a call to her boyfriend, but as she expected, he didn’t pick up. She wanted an explanation. She wanted him to pick up the call and deny it. To say that he wasn’t the one, even if she had clearly heard the lady moan his name ecstatically over and over again.
The tears on her lids slid, and this time she called her best friend, the only person after her brother who cared for her deeply.
The phone rang, and just like her boyfriend, Mathew the call ended as well.
Frustration grew in her chest, and this time, Kira found herself walking to her brother’s room.
Killian had probably left for work, but what better way was there to find solace aside from walking in and throwing herself into the arms of the only person who cared?
When Kira got to her brother’s room, she didn’t bother to knock. She just twisted the knob and walked inside.
“Killian…” She called with a slightly shaking tone, but the weight of his absence welcomed her as the room remained silent.
Right. She had really forgotten how work-oriented her brother was. After their father died, Killian worked as the manager at their company, then resumed the position as the CEO after he had graduated from college, leaving his dreams to pursue his own career. He had treated Kira like the princess she was and never allowed her to lift a finger.
The tears that were hanging on Kira’s eyelids slid, and she walked out of the room, slowly closing the door behind her.
When she got back to her room, she tried calling her boyfriend again, but he didn’t pick up. Only then did she decide to go see her brother at the office.
Perhaps his reassurance would help her breathe until Mathew decided to speak.
By the mirror, Kira stood, arranging the strands of her fringe. She barely had the effort to spare herself a proper glance. She just threw on a basic long-sleeve top, a pleated skirt that stopped some inches below her butt, then black Crocs that barely matched her outfit.
When she got to the garage, she slipped into the black Mercedes and drove off.
20 minutes down, and she was finally pulling into her brother’s company, the only place where peace had ever actually existed.
Kira walked into the company. Her eyes barely moved around, but she could see people staring weirdly at her. Right, her boyfriend had just cheated on her, and she was walking into her brother’s company with four different colors of outfits. So yeah, it was only normal that they stared at her like some weirdo.
As Kira took the elevator upstairs, her heart thumped, and tears threatened to roll down her face again, but she reassured herself that once she was with her brother, everything would feel better.
As Kira got to the front of her brother’s door, she twisted the knob with the intention of throwing herself into his arms, but the sight that welcomed her gaze stole her breath and left her frozen.
In her brother’s office were three men. One was flat on the floor, covered with blood, and the remaining two? They stood over him with guns in their hands and grins on their faces.
Amongst the two men standing, one was her uncle, who fought tooth and nail for the company, and the one on the floor was her brother’s right-hand man.
“Oh my God….” The shocked, filled gasp broke past her lips as she stared at the scene with wide eyes.
Kira tried to cover her mouth, but before she could, the two men were already staring at her.
Fear surged into her body, and Kira knew that at this moment, she had to run for her f*****g life, or the next time her brother would see her, she would be a f*****g corpse.
The pain of being betrayed was instantly replaced by the instinct to survive.
“Get her….” her uncle, Raymond, said, but she had bolted before they could even get to the door.
Kira ran, her legs wobbling under the sheer fear of what she had seen.
When she got to the elevator, none of the buttons worked, but she didn’t stop to think. She immediately processed the hacks that her brother had taught her.
Kira ran straight for the stairs, scrambling for her phone in the process.
Once her phone was in her hand, she dialed her brother’s number with trembling hands, the air in her throat dying down like she had been running for a long time.
The ladies in the office gathered, and now she understood why they had been staring at her like that. What she didn’t understand was where the hell her brother was.
Was he okay? Did he get into trouble? Did their uncle tie him up somewhere?
Fear filled her up but the fear of losing her brother surged into her body, and tears instantly welled up in her eyes.
“Catch her…” her uncle’s rough order came in, but before they could, Kira had managed to bolt through the hidden route that her brother had casually shown her some years back.
Soon, she burst out at the company’s compound, but right now her car was in the underground park.
Scared of being caught, Kira took the back gate of the company, bursting onto the slightly lonely road in no time.
Now that she had managed to step out with her breath still heavy and uneven, she placed another call to her brother, and he finally picked up.
A feeling of relief washed over her, but this time, Kira had no time to jubilate.
“Where… where are you, Killian… uncle… uncle Raymond is going to kill me…”
“Share your live location,” Killian muttered fearfully, and Kira hurriedly ended the call.
As she shared the live location, she didn’t stop to see if they were still after her.
Of course they would be. She had witnessed her uncle killing someone. He would want to kill her. To silence the last f*****g piece of evidence.
Her knees buckled in the process, but Kira kept running.
The street was lonely now, and no cars were passing, which made it dreadfully scary because her lungs were dry now and her legs were threatening to give out.
“God, please…” she cried, only to stumble upon a stone that sent her crashing down.
Kira hit the floor with a painful thud, her eyes spinning almost immediately.
Her heart skipped in fear, and she looked back to see that they were closing in on her already.
Panic struck her hard, and she tried to stand, but her knees twisted, and she went crashing to the floor again.
The tears that hung on her lids slid, and as she stood up the second time, the sky clamored, and the rain came pouring down.
Kira stared up immediately like she was trying to process where exactly the rain was coming from, but before she could, the men were already close, barely four feet away from her.
She pressed her palm to the floor, gathering all her strength to stand again, but she could barely even move.
“Still trying to run?” one of the men asked with a cocky smile, and Kira felt her body crashing down to the floor.
“Let’s get this done. We can’t afford to get seen,” the other guy said sharply, and the first guy nodded in acknowledgement.
Kira’s heart sank into her stomach, but she just remained there on the floor, getting wet from the rain in ways her boyfriend could never actually do.
The tears that slipped down her face mixed with the rain. So this was it? This was how she was going to die? By the hand of the man who probably killed her father.
Her heart tightened in her chest as she watched them raise their guns.
She wanted to stand, to try and run again, but her legs had betrayed her. They had given up on her.
“Pull the trigger…” the other urged, and Kira closed her eyes immediately, using her last minute to reminisce on the memories she had shared with her brother. The way he had protected her several times at all costs, the way she had never allowed him to protect her from this very boyfriend whose actions were about to push her to her very early grave.
The sound of gunshots filled the air, and Kira tightened her closed eyes, waiting to feel the pain of being pierced by a bullet, but one minute passed, and she didn’t feel the piercing of anything.
Silence washed in thick and dreadful.
“You can open your eyes now.” A cold, dark, and lethal voice said from behind, and Kira slowly opened her eyes, only to see the two men on the floor, soaked in their own blood.
Kira flinched at the terrifying sight, fearfully looking around to see who had shot them. She had heard someone speak, but she had yet to process it.
When her head snapped backward, her breath hitched at the sight before her, and her body completely froze.
Damian Thorne stood at an imposing 6’5 feet, with an umbrella above his head and a gun in his other hand. He was dressed in a perfectly tailored charcoal two-piece pinstripe co-ord, with the blazer revealing his sculpted, naked chest.
His raven hair was tousled back, but a thick, wet-looking strand fell over his brows. He wore dark shaded glasses, but even with his hooded eyes shielded, Kira could easily identify, through the sheer presence of his body, that the man standing by the black Maybach was none other than Damian Thorne of Blackwood… her brother’s triplet best friend.
