CHAPTER 4

Lyra Ash I refused to see him at first. But then I heard rumors that the council allowed me to view the blood-trace reports anyway. I was so angry, what did he want with me after everything he had done to me. "Valen, what do you want from me?" I questioned as tears ran down my cheeks. I knew that diagnosis was going to show my bloodline didn’t match standard werewolf origin pathways. They had told me all of this but I wondered what he was going to get with that information? Could it be that he came here to finish what he had started? Panic and anger ran through me as I breathed. From the test that was carried out my family were recorded as wolves. But my deeper blood? It mapped back to the First Era, before species separation. So apparently I was a mystery, that's why they kept me here. Not only that but they also found out that the moon sigil on me had been reacting like a crowning mark. Just as I was lost in my thoughts I heard noise from outside and as I peeped I saw that the council had met up again. I wondered why and for what reason? As I looked I saw a structure cloaked in a diplomatic guise instead of openly wolf-armed. As I rushed and I eavesdropped I found out this it was Valens beta Drex He told the council he came to represent pack interests. And apparently that earned him access. I stood by the door as he questioned the council. I questioned myself on why Valen’s beta would want to meet with the council of Scribes without his alpha but it was not my business. They questioned him: “Did you enchant the rejection ritual and cause all this commotion?” He smirked just barely, as he replied. “Eryndor doesn’t need a Moonborn. It needs a stronger alpha.” I gasped as I understood what he meant. He was not in denial. It was simply just his ambition. Listening to his confession, it dawned on me that Valen was surrounded with snakes who wanted to bring him down. Valen Grey I realized that the bond I cut from Lyra wasn’t dying, it was only moving. And now the moon wasn’t watching us. It was answering her. It all began to make sense. The more I investigated, the more I found out. Truly, Lyra had the heart of the moon goddess and I was simply just a fool. As I was there, I noticed that Arcspire’s detention cells were built differently. They aren’t metal or stone. They’re spell-formed barriers that react to power. Because of what happened at the border, the council didn’t imprison her out of punishment. They wanted classification. So she was tested daily. The first test was poison. I couldn't believe the torture they put her through to understand the length of her power Most species usually died from magical venom blends unless they carried some sort of counter-charms. But Lyra didn’t need a counter. Her blood easily neutralized toxins like they were regular contaminants. As I stood in the middle of the lab going through the records I was shocked at how strong she was. I was truly wrong to call her weak. The wardens said nothing to me but their silence communicated importance. The reason for her Immunity was based on one thing and that was... older blood. From the second test. I could see that it was elemental exposure. Ice sigils, fire incantations, water binding each time they sent a spell outward. It was recorded that her body shimmered and folded it inward. She didn’t chant or focus. The absorption was passive and biological, not learned magic. I fell in love reading all of this "So my mate is this powerful" It made my heart leap with excitement. I was so glad that I showed up eventually. Imagine letting this powerful mate go. I would be a fool, I was a fool but not anymore. I was grateful that the council let me see her in a controlled interview chamber, bond-cuffs. She was too dangerous to be left like that. I knew that our interaction would create something far more magical and magnetic than I'd ever seen. That bond was was the birth of her powers I could feel my wolf get active. Then I saw the tether would spark but not explode. Instantly, memories of that day flooded my head. Why was I trying to break the bond that day? I questioned myself. She looked at me and said quietly, “You broke it.” The guilt filled me up. I was embarrassed to look her in the eye as she stayed locked in the cuffs I could see the irreversible pain in her eyes. It broke a part of me. I tried to justify myself as I said “I didn’t understand it.” It was the first time I said something like that. "I believe you because I think someone else did it" I couldn't process what she just said. "Wha-wha-what do you mea-" "Time up Alpha we need to talk" One of the members of the council interrupted us before we could speak more. "We don’t allow unlogged supernatural interviews between severed mate-carriers because the bond might destabilize magic currents." He said sternly as he showed me my way out. *** Lyra Ash My presence was such a bone contention. I didn't see what was coming next but I felt it. The mages had realized that my power was more than they had bargained for so they just observed me. It was almost as if I was a hybrid species that sat among them. Two days after my meeting with Valen, a siren envoy came by. Princess Marivelle, who was considered diplomatic and calm, spoke gently to me. Almost as if she was talking to a scared version of herself she once knew. "I've heard so much about you. I'm excited to meet the only creature that has power greater than the all the kingdoms put together" She said, I blushed at her advances. She was really nice. She made me feel comfortable and that was when she said "You could leave to Tidelume under protection if the council authorized relocation transfer instead of detainment. It will be better for you to understand your powers more" Without thinking much of it. I agreed and the council didn’t refuse. They debated as I brought the issue before them "But hybrid transfers aren’t illegal. They’re feared. She's no ordinary wolf. She has so much that in the wrong hands she'll be a problem" At night, I couldn't sleep. I kept on seeing my wolf coming out and that was when I woke up and noticed what had happened. I had shifted spontaneously. I didn't plan it. This had happened for the first time since the ritual. I could feel my wolf erupting outward in the cell, not violent, but enormous. It was its white dire-form. Then it whispered to me: “You are the breaker. Rise.” That was when I realized that the magic wasn’t poison. It was an inheritance. It was a slow and gradual acceptance The wardens had seen the shift. The council saw the logs. And suddenly, I was no longer a test subject. I was going to be a political risk. Everything had changed because of this new discovery and development. I was even stunned at everything I saw. Because the Mage Council Republic handles risks in paperwork, I was moved from research detainment to high-security hybrid monitoring, which was just a step away from sacrifice. Just like that. I was treated like an animal with no rights. But I understood their fear which only made sense to them and not because now I knew what my power could do. In the transfer record, I saw a stamped classification they read: "MOON-ORIGIN FIRST ERA HYBRID." No pack name. But a prophecy category. I knew something was going to change after this.
