Unraveling Truths.
Emma was seated at the coffee shop, holding a cup of warmth in her hands, gazing absently at the entrance.
She requested to see her father in the hopes of getting some answers—Eagerly in need of them.
The door opened and Charles Sinclair entered His face pale, with his eyes quickly moving around, Anxiously looking around, he noticed Emma and hurriedly made his way to approach her.
“Emma,” he said hello to her, He spoke with a trembling voice.
“Dad, we should have a discussion,” Emma said, she spoke with confidence even though there was chaos within her.
“I know,” he let out a deep breath Seated opposite her. “I regret not being completely honest with you at the beginning.”
“Why didn’t you?” Emma asked, her voice laced with frustration and hurt. “What's the reason for all the hidden secrets?”
“I thought I was safeguarding you from harm,”Charles said, His hands shook while they were placed on the table “I thought if you didn’t know…”
“Didn’t know what?” Emma interrupted. “About Mom? About the debts? About Alexander?”
Charles nodded, his eyes filled with regret. “All of it. I thought if I could fix things, you wouldn’t have to worry.”
“Currently, I find myself in the middle of the situation,” Emma responded promptly, tears welling up in her eyes.
“And I don’t even know what to believe anymore!”
“I know,” Charles spoke quietly, Extending his arm across the table, he reached out to grasp her hand
“I’ve made so many mistakes, Emma. But I swear, I was only trying to protect you.”
Emma pulled her hand back, tears streaming down her face.
“Protect me? By marrying me off to someone like Alexander?”
“He is not what you believe him to be,” Charles insisted, His voice filled with desperation.
“He may be harsh, but he is the only person capable of ensuring your safety.”
“Safe from what?” Emma demanded, her voice rising. “From the people you got involved with? From his secrets?”
“From all of it,” Charles whispered, his eyes pleading with her to understand.
“Emma, I’m in too deep. We both are. If you decide to marry him, at least you will have some level of protection.”
“I don't want to be shielded.,” Emma said, nodding in disagreement. “I want the truth.”
Charles looked down, his shoulders slumping. “The truth is... Your mother did not simply pass away due to an accident.”
Emma felt her heart beating rapidly in her chest. “What are you trying to say?”
“She was going to expose everything,” Charles said, his voice barely audible.
“The debts, the deals, the people I was involved with. She was going to blow it all up.”
“And then what happened?” Emma asked, her voice trembling.
“She was murdered,” Charles spoke in a low voice, His eyes Glittered with tears..
“They staged it to appear as though it was accidental, However, it turned out that was not the case.”
Emma was shocked and quickly covered her mouth. “You knew? All this time, you knew?”
Charles nodded, his face pale. “I knew. And I kept quiet to protect you.”
Emma stared at him, her mind spinning. “And Alexander? What does he have to do with this?”
“He’s connected to them,” Charles said, his voice low.
“But he’s also their enemy. He’s been trying to take them down for years.”
“Take them down?” Emma repeated, confusion washing over her.
“He is merciless, Emma,” Charles said, his eyes filled with terror.
“However, he is the sole individual capable of confronting them. Getting married to him will ensure your safety.”
Emma's head shook, tears filled her sight. “I am shocked. I am uncertain of whom to rely on.”
“Trust Alexander,” Charles said, gripping her hand. “He’s your only chance.”
Emma pulled her hand away, her mind racing. “I need to talk to him. I need to know the truth.”
“Be careful, Emma,” With a trembling voice, Charles gave a warning.
“There are some things that are unknown to you. Things that could destroy you.”
Emma stood up, her hands shaking. “I’ll be careful. But I need answers.”
Emma was anxious and excited waiting for Alexander that night.
After a brief pause, she gathered her courage and opened the door.
“Emma,” When she entered, Alexander lifted his head from his desk to greet her.
His face became more gentle when he noticed the distress in her eyes. “What's the matter?”
“We need to have a discussion,” Emma closed the door as she spoke. “I want to find out the truth.”
Alexander's gaze became intense, and he reclined in his seat. “What truth?”
“About my mother,” Emma said, her voice trembling. “About you. About everything.”
Alexander studied her for a moment, then nodded slowly. “Sit down, Emma.”
She sat, and she folded her arms. “Were you aware? About her death? Was it really an accident?”
Alexander sighed, running a hand through his hair. “I knew.”
Emma’s heart sank. “And you didn’t tell me?”
“It wasn’t my place,” Alexander said quietly. “Your father should have told you.”
“He did,” Emma said, her voice breaking. “I need to hear it directly from you.”
Alexander gazed at her, She couldn't quite identify the emotion filling his eye—regret, maybe?.
“Your mother was going to expose some very dangerous people. People who would stop at nothing to protect their interests.”
“And they killed her?” Emma murmured softly, tears flowing down her cheeks.
“Yes," Alexander replied, barely whispering. “They made it seem like an accident, but in reality, they did it intentionally.”
Emma caught her breath. “And you knew? You knew all along?”
“I did,” Alexander admitted, his voice filled with sorrow. “But I couldn’t tell you. It would have put you in even more danger.”
“Danger from who?” Emma demanded. “Who are these people?”
“They’re powerful,” Alexander said, his voice grave.
“They control things from behind the scenes, controlling unseen forces that are unknown to the majority of people.
And you’re connected to them?” Emma asked, fear creeping into her voice.
“I was,” Alexander said, his jaw tightening. “But I’ve been working to take them down for years. That’s why your father made the deal with me—so I could protect you.”
“Protect me?” Emma repeated, shaking her head. “How? By marrying me?”
“It’s the only way,” Alexander said, speaking with confidence. “After we tie the knot, I will keep you safe and look after you, they will not be able to harm you.”
“But what about you?” Emma asked, her voice trembling. “What happened to you?”
“I can handle them,” Alexander said, his eyes dark. “But you can’t. This is why I am asking for your trust.”
Emma gazed at him, feeling a mix of emotions rushing through her thoughts.
“Can I rely on you? How can I know that what you're telling me is the truth?”
“I am risking everything to guarantee your well-being.” Alexander mentioned, speaking with intense passion.
“I wouldn't take that action if I didn't care.”
“Care?” Emma echoed, tears filling her eyes. “Do you care about me, Alexander? Or is this just about power?”
Alexander leaned forward, his eyes boring into hers. “I care about you, Emma. "I haven't cared about anyone this much in a while."
Emma experienced a range of feelings because she was both confused and scared. “Why didn't you inform me earlier? Why all the secrets?”
“Since the truth can be harmful,”Alexander said, his voice was filled with anguish. “I wanted to avoid putting you at risk.”
“I am already at risk,” Emma said, her voice growing louder. “I am now uncertain about what to trust”
“Believe this,” Alexander said, Rising to his feet and walking towards her. “ "In order to protect you, I am prepared to take extreme measures, even if it means sacrificing all that I have achieved.”
Emma looked up at him, her heart pounding. “I want to believe you, Alexander. But I’m scared.”
“I understand,” Alexander whispered, making an effort to make contact with her hand. “You are not the only one going through this. We’ll face it together.”
Emma's eyes welled up with tears, she was consumed by her emotions.”I am unsure about what action to take.”
“Allow me to assist you,” Alexander said, he spoke softly. “Trust me, Emma.”
Emma gazed deeply into his eyes, trying to detect any hint of dishonesty.
However, all she noticed was genuineness, along with another quality. Something that caught her off guard.
“Okay," she murmured softly, giving a slight nod. "I will have faith in you.”
Alexander exhaled deeply, his face showing a clear sense of relief. “Thank you, Emma.”
She managed a small smile, her heart still heavy with doubt. “But I need you to promise me something.”
“Anything,” Alexander said, his voice firm.
“Emma declared with a shaky voice, “There will be no more secrets.” “I need to have all the details if we are going to proceed with this..”
After a brief pause, Alexander nodded in agreement. “No more secrets. I promise.”
Emma exhaled slowly, feeling a mix of relief and fear. “Okay. Then let’s do this.”
They were sitting quietly when a sudden knock on the door startled them both. Alexander frowned, standing up to answer it.
When he opened the door a tense man in a dark suit greeted him.
“We are a major problem”, The man whispered softly as he spoke, barely raising his voice above a murmur.
Alexander’s eyes narrowed. “What kind of problem?”
“The kind that can’t wait,” the man replied, glancing at Emma.
Alexander turned back to Emma, his expression serious. “Stay here. I’ll handle this.”
Emma nodded eagerly as Alexander emer
ged into the hallway with the man, causing her heart to beat frantically, Shutting the door after he left.
She was sitting down there, her mind overwhelmed with all of the thought running through it.
