Secrets Unveiled. “Father? Dad, are you available?" Emma's voice trembled while holding her phone, but there was only silence in return. She tried calling again, but it went directly to voicemail. "What's going on?" she whispered to herself, walking back and forth in her loft, feeling anxious. Her phone vibrated with a new message. She checked it, Eyes widening in surprise: Let's meet up at the abandoned warehouse located on 52nd Street. Come alone. Don’t tell anyone. “This is crazy,” Emma muttered quietly to herself, despite the situation, she still decided to grab her coat. Her thoughts raced as she hurried through the quiet streets, At last, they reached the large, darkened warehouse ahead. “Dad?” She shouted as she entered, her words reverberating in the large area. “Emma, over here.” Her father's voice echoed from the darkness and she rushed toward him. “Dad, What is happening? What was the reason behind sending that message? What aren’t you telling me?” He sighed heavily, Entering a small beam of light. “Emma, there are things you need to know. Things I should’ve told you long ago.” “Like what?” She spoke with a panicked tone. “About the company? About the deal with Alexander?” “Yes, and more,” he admitted, his voice strained. “Our company is in trouble—deeper trouble than you know.” “What kind of trouble?” She demanded, her pulse racing. “Debt,” he whispered. “I took a loan from a dangerous group, and now they're coming to get their money.” Emma felt a heavy sense of disappointment. “You borrowed from criminals? Dad, how could you?” “I believed I was capable of managing it,” he said, his voice breaking. “But it got out of control. Now, they’re threatening everything.” Emma’s hands shook. “And Alexander? He’s involved in this too?” Charles nodded grimly. “The marriage... it’s not just about the merger. It’s about keeping you safe from them.” “Safe? From who?” Her voice wavered. Before Charles could respond, a figure emerged from the shadows. Emma turned to see Alexander Reid, his face unreadable. “You shouldn’t be here, Emma,” Alexander said, His behavior remained as cold as always. “I could say the same to you,” She angrily reacted. “What are you doing here, and how come you are so well-informed about the issues within my family?” “Because it’s my business to know,” Alexander replied, he looked steadily. “Your father should have told you the truth from the start.” “What truth?” Emma demanded, her frustration mounting. Alexander looked at Charles, who nodded reluctantly. “Emma,” her father began, “your mother’s death... it wasn’t an accident.” Emma froze, the words not fully registering. “What? What do you mean?” “She was murdered,” Alexander said bluntly, his eyes never leaving hers. “Murdered?” Emma whispered, her world spinning. “No... no, that can’t be true.” Charles looked down, guilt etched on his face. “I tried to protect you from it, Emma. But the truth is, she found out about the debts and the people I was dealing with. She planned to reveal all the secrets, and they killed her for it.” Emma stepped back, shaking her head in astonishment. “You’re lying... you’re both lying.” “It’s the truth,” Alexander said quietly. “Your father believed that he could protect you by concealing it, However, things are now falling apart.” Emma's eyes filled with tears. “And you knew? You’ve known all this time?” “I knew,” Alexander admitted, his voice softening. “But I’m not the one responsible. The people your father owes—they’re powerful and ruthless. This marriage was the only way to protect you from them.” “Protect me?” Emma’s voice cracked. “By compelling me to live a life I do not desire?” “It’s the only option,” Charles insisted, His voice was filled with a sense of urgency. “If you don’t marry Alexander, You could be their next target.” “And what about you?” Emma asked, her voice barely above a whisper. “What happened to you?” “I will face the repercussions,” he said, his voice filled with sorrow. “But you have to be safe.” Emma turned to Alexander, her eyes filled with pain. “And you? Why are you doing this? What do you really get out of it?” Alexander locked eyes with her, An unspoken understanding was exchanged between them. “I am undertaking this task because it is the ethical thing to do,” he said, though he spoke with uncertainty. “I can protect you, Emma. You will have a secure and protected life, even if it’s not the one you imagined.” Emma felt her heart shatter. “And what about love? What about what I want?” “Love?” Alexander’s expression hardened. “Love is a luxury, Emma. One we can’t afford.” Emma move her head back and forth while crying. “I no longer want to be controlled by fear and I refuse to let it dominate my life”. "What actions do you plan to take?” Alexander asked, his voice low, challenging. “Run? Hide? There’s nowhere safe from these people. Marriage is the only way.” “I require some time to contemplate.,” she whispered, stepping back. “I am unable to make a decision at this moment.” “Take the night,” Alexander said, his tone almost gentle. “But remember, time is running out.” Emma cast a final glance at her father,Witnessing the regret and sorrow reflected in his eyes. “You should have told me,” Her voice was filled with emotion as she spoke. I’m sorry, Emma,” Charles replied, his voice cracking. “I’m so sorry.” Emma left the warehouse in silence, without saying anything else. She felt overwhelmed by the weight of their words. She sensed that everything was falling apart around her, with no clear path forward. Back in her loft, Emma sat in silence, the twinkling city lights outside her window. She had a whirlwind of thoughts in her mind, and every route appeared to be heading towards failure. She desired to feel anger towards her father because of his dishonesty and the hidden truths that ruined her life, but instead, she only felt empty. Her phone buzzed, breaking the silence.. She took a quick look at the screen, expecting a message from her father or Alexander, However, the message came from a number that was not recognized. You believe you understand the truth, but you don’t. Meet me tomorrow at midnight. Alone. I will share all the truth. Emma gasped. “What now?” she whispered, her heart pounding. She read the message again, Anxiety accumulating in her stomach. Who could this be? Another secret? Another lie? Fear and curiosity battled inside her as she gazed at the message in front of her. She was unaware of a lot of things, as much had been hidden from her. And now, She has a decision to make. Should she go? Is it worth taking a chance and risking it all to discover the complete truth? Should she choose to leave and try to salvage what was left of her life? The message remained on the screen for a while, teasing her with the prospect of further disclosures. And as she sat there, the question echoed in her mind: In a world filled with deception and hidden truths, who could she rely on? She was deeply burdened by the decision, and as the night deepened, The feeling of a looming disaster also grew. Tomorrow has the potential to make a significant difference. But would it be for better or worse? Emma had no way of knowing. She realized she had gone too far to change course at this point.
