“I can’t wait to go to college!” Gabriella said, folding her clothes into a box, she stopped and smiled at her mother “I’m excited.” Cathie walked to the bed from where she had been standing beside the door, she sat down and cleared her throat. “When I was your age, I hated going to school.” he said smiling back at her daughter “My father insisted I go, he said something about it been a Nile in the family.” “So what happened?” Gabriella dropped her clothes and sat beside her mother. Cathie chuckled “We argued for week, I tried to convinces that I will never leave this ranch, so going to school would be useless.” he sighed sadly “He insisted, now I am glad I went.” “I never knew him, he must be a good man?” “He’s the best father I have ever known.” Cathie said smiling at her daughter “He died before I even got married to your father.” “I am sorry! Gabriella whispered “it’s all in the past now. “Cathie said cheerfully “I am happy with my life? They heard a knock, then the door opened Herrick walked in grinning. “The two most beautiful woman in the world, he said “Dad!” Gabriella said “I thought you went to town! “God forbid, I can’t miss my daughter going to college!” he said kissing her forehead, then kissed his wife on the lips. “Gross.” Gab said irritably. “What? Cathie narrowed her eyes at Gab “I think you should get married too, i Can hook you up with Mary’s son.” “Mom!” Gab eyes widen “I am only nineteen!” “Tell me you’ve never had a boyfriend” Herrick said lifting his brows “Dad, you too? Gab said covering her face with both palm “I am going to die of embarrassment.” Both Cathie and Herrick laughed. *** It been two years since Gabriella left for college, she came home during breaks and holiday she admitted she missed her life at the ranch so much. “I wish I don’t have to go back when the break is off.” Gab blurted out one night as they were having dinner, all eyes at the table turned to her. “Really!” Cathie said, then frown “why?” Gab just shrugged and shoved rice in her mouth. They were silence for some time, then Herrick asked “Where is that boy that you told us about?” “He’s fine.” She answered without looking from her plate. “Is he really fine?” Cathie asked, a little worried “I think it will be better if you talk about it.” “Scott and I broke up before the break.” She finally said looking at her mother “ He’s an idiot.” David and Angela, who were both in their first year in college, looked at each other and shrugged, then they continued eating. “He really is an idiot.” Mrs. Rose said Gabriella nodded her head, then said at her. “What happened?” Cathie asked. Gab cleared her throat “He said he wanted more than a relationship, that he wished to get married as soon as he graduated.” “So?” Cathie shrugged” don’t you want to marry him?” “I wanted to, and I told him but he said that I wouldn’t like the life he chose. That he knew my parent are stinking rich.” She said glaring at her parents “I wonder why you been stinking rich would affect my life. I was so angry.” “That’s all?” Herrick asked with interest. Gabriella signed “A couple of days later, I learned his father owns a ranch too and he wanted to work on the ranch for life.” Everybody at the table chucked. “It’s not funny, really.” Gab said offended “I got so furious when I realized we had never talked about what our parents did for a living.” “Like seriously?” David chucked. Gab glared at him and muttered “Lucky bastard.” Cathie cleared her throat “Then you should have looked for him to clear things up, that is if you still love him.” “I did look for him, but it seems he intentionally hid himself from me.” “I see.” Herrick muttered “since you are starting a new session next weeks, I think they would be more chances of seeing him.” Everyone at the table nodded. Gab breath through her mouth and shook her head. What a family.
