Jules grabbed Scarlett's limp hand. Her emotional numbness reached so deep inside that she barely felt the other woman's skin against her own. Jules had cried a little, but not near enough. She knew, though, that when she had time to think, to really think, that the tears would come, and they wouldn't stop.
In the background, the alarm still sounded, though not as loud as out in the hall.
Evette stepped over and peered down at Scarlett's face. “So, this is her?”
Jules nodded.
“Alright then. Aksel, grab her and let's go.”
A large, blond rescuer stomped over. He grabbed one of Scarlett's arms and hoisted her across his shoulders in a fireman's carry. Once his load was in place, he turned to Evette. “Good to go.”
