I couldn't hold myself anymore. I stormed out of the center soon after Serena was lifted out. I had faced enough embarrassment that should last me a lifetime.
"Charlie," Frank grabbed my arm the moment I pushed back from my seat, "just wait, just stop for one second…"
"Get off me Frank," I pulled free without looking at him and kept moving, cutting through the rows, past the handshakes and the congratulations and the polite conversations that were somehow still happening around the complete destruction of my evening.
I did not stop, not for the lobby, not for the man at the door who called my name, not for anyone.
Frank was still behind me when I hit the car park. "Charlie just talk to me, we can fix this, just stop walking and talk to me."
