I was a shielded young girl who for the longest time had never had an access to men or indulged in young relationships. Coming from a family where my dad was a teacher with a homemaker mom made us quite the straight forward kids.
The world was scared of my mom, she was one scary being but to me I never saw the scary part of her . My mom was simple, follow the rules and your ways would never clash. My older sister whom I was following would be one to bear witness to the scary side of my mom as she was the rebellious and naughty one.
She would always have a feud with my mom. We grew up in an environment where everything was handled my mom ranging from feeding to dressing to discipline. My dad's main role was being a financial backer. He covered all financial needs and to date mom made us believe that. Even when she chipped in she would make sure to add, " your dad gave me to give you, make sure to thank him" phrase.
My mom was assigned alot of nicknames in my village; chief justice, Kofi Annan, Village elder among others. This was merely because my mom instilled discipline when, and where she dimmed right and nobody had the authority nor the mandate to question her.
To me, mommy was just mommy. Nobody in my village understood that and not one but several occasions I would get the famous " how do you survive with her" question from my fellow kids.
When my mom would say," wait till your daddy gets here." Just know that you were beyond reason and you are bound for the worst. My dad was the high court. Normally after the reporting, you would get a lecture or an advice from my dad but if it got to a point of being discipled with by dad just know you crossed the line. I was a focused kid who did things with authority and made less to no mistakes.
I came from a big family, my family was polygamous but each year December 25th and New Year we would meet and celebrate together. This included; playing games, cooking and eating together, assigning chores together and most importantly spend the night together before the extending family leaves. My mom was the first wife so all activities took place at home. On the new year evening, everybody would share their achievements, goals and career path that they hoped to follow. My family made sure we as kids would not feel the feud of co wives that existed in other polygamous families. This made us feel connected and one but as you grow up one tends to see the loopholes.
