" There you are," that suddenly took me out of my stupor.
"Where have you been? Your cousin made it here several hours ago."
You would wonder if I took that long conversing with Bruce. "There goes the spirit of exaggeration, " I thought amused at my own joke. That little action got me off the frying pan right into the fire." You think that it's amusing, I send you for an errand and all you do is flirt with men on the way,huh......., " there goes the monologue. This time I made sure not to show my amusement at my own joke." That cousin of a traitor, " I thought," I'm going to get you back just wait and see."
In our household one needs no word to snitch. The act of leaving me behind and coming home all alone was a snitch all on itself. He was bound to answer on why I wasn't with him and what I was doing.
I stood obediently as the lecture went on and on and once I was sure she was done I made my way into the house and got my reading materials. It was a taboo to walk away while being addressed by my parents.
"So how is the guy?," I threw an annoyed stare at the source of the voice. " I didn't tell mom that you were talking to a guy," the voice proceeded. "Well thanks, she didn't even know that I was talking to a guy and that's why I delayed," I snapped back giving him a s******c smile.
The remaining part of the night went on without any troubles coming my way and before I knew it I was under my cosy blankets trying to get some sleep. I couldn't help blush at the thought of Bruce.
"Did he notice me noticing him before," I laughed foolishly. " Stupid teenage hormones," I cursed. It's been two weeks since I started noticing him.One time I was coming from a farm, he gave me a quick uninterested look as he passed by me. Another time I saw him while he was just passing by making his way to the market and most of the time I too a keen to see him at his sister's store while he gave out a helping hand.
He was different from the guys around; tall, dark and eloquent. He had pride that rose from his confidence of dressing and speech.I was sinking deep in the crush without realizing and yet I knew this was a wrong focus for me. "Angie you need to focus, he is just a guy who has caught your eye but like all men, he is bad news especially now that you are still a student," I counselled myself out of my own stupid imagination trying to gain back focus and control of my own life. I was a virgin who had zero experience with men yet I hated the idea of associating with them steming from a personal experience. The details were always clear as though it were happening then.
I shut my eyes as I slowly drifted in my sleep.
