My lover's promise

CHAPTER 4

A strong force hit my face and I fell to the ground. Yep! It was the volleyball. All of this happen because I wasn’t focus, and I was being a p*****t. I thought.

“Nicole!? Are you okay?”

I heard a voice. I looked at my left, and it was Maverick. It was like looking at an angel taking me to heaven. His face looks so worried. I tried to maintain consciousness but I guess the shock of a volleyball hitting your face was more dominant.

I fought unconsciousness by blinking and every time I blink a bit of my dream flashed right before me. It was a scene of the road with cars in an accident. I was so scared. Before, I could react and start crying, I opened my eyes once more and saw Maverick.

” I'm taking her to the clinic!” Maverick said.

”Good thinking, I'll go to the clinic after class. Please explained to the nurse what happened.” Coach Stevens said. I felt being carried by someone in bridal style and when I looked up it was Maverick.”

Maverick's POV

 What was she thinking, she is supposed to be looking at the ball not to me.

“Coach, I'm taking her to the clinic!”

“Good thinking, I’ll go to the clinic after class, please explained to the nurse what had happened,” Coach Stevens said. I nodded to Coach Stevens and I picked her up and she was surprisingly light. I looked at her face and I could see that blood was coming out of her nose. I have to hurry, and I ran down to the hallway. As I was running I couldn't help but think, why this woman is so smart but so dumb at the same time, I asked myself. I ran to the clinic and saw Nurse Kelly.

“What happened? Did you punch her in the face?” She jokingly asked.

“Shut up! She got hit by a volleyball in her face.” I answered in annoyance.

“Who was the student?” Nurse Kelly asks.

“What student?” I replied.

“The person who hit her with the volleyball,” she answered while looking at me suspiciously.

“Now is not the time for that please treat her.” I pleaded.

She looked at me surprise but amuse at the same time. I sat beside Nicole as the nurse checked up on her. After half an hour she looked at me and said: she broke her nose but luckily it wasn't that serious.

“I'm going to put some bandage around the bridge of her nose, so she won't be ashamed to walk around with a bruise, she could just pretend that she had a nose job.” Nurse Kelly said.

Nurse Kelly then stood up and went to look for bandages. I looked at Nicole. She sure looks like a sleeping beauty except that she had a bruise in the bridge of her nose. She is now a Minnie Mouse, which is still cute. I felt bad with what I did to her. Not to mention, it's her first day in a new school. Wow things are not really going well with her. Jeez, she's the only one who made me feel welcome and didn't see me as a threat or an enemy. Well given that she is a new student, so she doesn't know much about me. Nurse Kelly then came in with the bandages and start to cover her bruise. When Nurse Kelly was done, I decided to take my leave. As I was about to go, I heard her call out my name.

"Maverick"

Wow, did she just call me? when she called me by my name I can’t help feel to be excited. What's the matter with me? Yeah, she's cute like whatever. Then I looked back at her and studied her features more. She has a black luscious hair, her lips were pink and has a beautiful pout. I bet those tastes awesome. Then Nurse Kelly came in,

Wow! Why are you still here? Do you like this girl?

No! It was i, who hit her with the volleyball.

Oh and now you're feeling guilty with what you did...she looked at me teasingly.

 I glared at her and left the clinic. That crazy woman, she acts as if she knows me. She's just my older sister for crying out loud. I don't need to be babysat by her. 

NICOLE POV

 I can hear Maverick feeling distressed and I want to reassure him that I'm okay. But words can’t get out of my mouth. I tried my hardest, but it's just so difficult to say anything when there's a throbbing pain on your nose and in your head. That serve was surely strong. I hope it doesn’t leave a mark or a bruising. I don’t wanna walk around with a bandage on my nose area. As I was lost in my thoughts I was beginning to feel sleepy, that’s when I heard him stood up and I felt Maverick was about to leave. I want to say thank you but I'm just so weak. Instead of saying thank you. I called him.

"Maverick"

 I can feel that he stopped for a moment. With my eyes close, I can feel that he is staring at me, or maybe I'm just a big assuming b***h. I thought. Then I felt a little bit of warmth radiating from my left side. OMG! Is he close? Is he going to kiss me? WAIT! Did I put on some lip gloss? I frantically thought. What if he's really looking at me now and he thinks I'm so disgusting to look at. Did I put on a deodorant? Do I smell like a child that has been playing all day under the sun? OMG!!!I continued to frantically think of what ifs. I'm so nervous. I don't want to assume anything but I guess I have a crush on him. I do have a crush on Maverick. Oh my God, I transferred to this school hoping that I could get a good education and a brighter future yet here I am, thinking about Maverick. Then I heard the Nurse come in and they started to talk. I couldn't really hear what they were talking but with the way that they're talking it appears that they have known each other already. I felt sad thinking, there might be something going on about them. So I decided to ignore and focus on sleeping and resting my body. I really do have a crush on Maverick but then again, I’m not here to get a boyfriend. I’m here to make my mom proud of me. I focused my breathing then not long after I fell asleep. After some time, the nurse woke me up and I realized that I slept from 10am-3pm. She looked at me and gave me a smile. She has a long blonde hair. She came up to me and said.

“Hey buttercup! So sorry to wake you up, but school is over, do you want me to call your mom?” She asked nicely.

Please don't, I’m feeling better now. I said.

She smiled at me and filled in some papers. I sat quietly, and she started to say something.

"You know, it's the first time I've seen my brother worried for someone."

“Your brother?” I asked.

“Yes, Maverick, he is my little brother,” she smiled.

Ah, so that explains why they were talking like they know each other. Wow! I'm relieved, at least that means he isn’t interested with other women. Not that I wanted him not to but maybe he could like me. I thought. But no, I bet he doesn’t like clumsy girls like me, I should just focus on studying.

“Oh! I forgot to say thank you to him.” i said.

“You wanna thank him for giving you that bruise? “The Nurse answered.

“What bruise!? My heart was pounding, I am terrified. Please let it be a tiny bruise. I thought.

“Can I have a mirror? Ms?” I paused because I wasn’t able to get her name.

“Kelly. And yes you can have a mirror,” she replied.

She handed me a cute mirror and I looked at my face. Oh my god, there's a bruise on my face and a bandage on the bridge of my nose. I was completely shocked. Wow! My first day is such a roller coaster, I thought. Then I looked at Nurse Kelly. Nurse Kelly looked at me then smiled.

“Don't worry, the bruising will be gone after 2 weeks, for the mean time just cover it with some bandages”. She handed me some bandages and she looked at me and said,

I"n addition, you won't be doing any PE for the next 2 weeks. But in exchange you have to do a lot of written activities and reports to compensate the 2 weeks that you won’t be participating. Okay?"

Hehe, today might not be the best of my days but there’s something good that has come out of it. YES!!!NO PE!!! I said to myself. I tried to hide my happiness knowing that I won't be participating any physical activities for 2 weeks.

"Aww, what a bummer, I really wanna do some volleyball" I apologetically responded.

“Hahahaha! Oh please, with your body, i can sense that you're one of those nerds who spends their time studying and staying indoors.” She answered while laughing.

My face then turns into a slight frown.

“No! I'm very athletic! I play a lot of games.” I defiantly replied.

“Well that explains the bruise on your nose. Oh well.” she answered.

Before I could answer back, Nurse Kelly gave me a blue mosquito bracelet. You know those cute bracelets made in Japan that repels mosquitoes. I looked at her, with a wonder. Please give that to my lil brother. Even though he is tough, sometimes even the toughest of the tough needs love. She answered. Then it hit me, Yeah they might not be the closest or sweetest with each other, but one thing for sure is that they have each other’s back. I nodded and said Thank you to the nurse and made my way out to the bus stop to go home.
