Chapter 17 Hana waited outside for Alfred long enough to know he wasn’t coming. Using a map from reception, she changed her mind about her destination and found her way to the bunkhouse using the lower mountain track. Phoenix slept in the baby sling, her legs dangling as Hana walked. The sun beat on them without mercy. Sweat welded her shirt to her sides and discomfort oozed from every pore when she finally found Flick. He walked a sick gelding around a pen in wide circles. The horse groaned with colic, its tired steps wooden and forced as the stockman prevented it lying down and drowning in liquid from its own lungs. Hana stopped at the fence. “Will he die?” she asked, her tone sombre. Flick shook his head. “Apparently not. Jack gave him some stuff and he’s improving already. Just tired
