The landline trilled around the time Hana expected Logan home and she answered, not speaking until the caller did. Logan’s voice sounded capable and tears sparked tears behind Hana’s eyes. “What’s up, babe? You didn’t answer your cell phone.” “Sorry,” Hana gulped, her voice croaking. “I put it down somewhere.” She paused. “Why are you ringing? Aren’t you on your way home?” Panic caused a red mist to blur her vision of the bush beyond the lobby window. “Heads of department have an after school meeting.” Logan sighed. “I forgot.
