Chapter 2: Is She Unsatisfied with the Settlement?

486 Words
Sinclair Corporation The door to the CEO's office was knocked on. "Come in." Nicholas Sinclair’s chief legal advisor, Robert Harris, entered, holding a file folder. His expression was somewhat complicated as he approached Nicholas. Nicholas glanced up from his paperwork and casually asked, "She still refuses to sign?" His voice was cold and indifferent, seeping with a chill that seemed to come from his very bones. Even discussing the divorce, his face showed no trace of emotion. "No, sir. Mrs. Whitman has signed it. However..." Robert paused. "However, what?" "Mrs. Whitman made some modifications to the property division." Robert handed the documents to Nicholas. "Ha! Is she dissatisfied with what I offered?" Nicholas sneered. As expected, she was just another greedy woman. No matter how much she pretended to love him, it seemed that love couldn’t compare to the allure of money. Robert pressed his lips together, saying nothing. Nicholas didn't wait for him to speak further. But as he looked at the divorce agreement signed by Emma, his expression froze for a moment. Unlike the previous stack of papers detailing the property division, this divorce agreement was just one page. It clearly stated that Emma would leave without taking anything. In addition, there was a “Share Transfer Agreement,” which stated that she would transfer her 5% share of Sinclair Corporation to Nicholas without compensation, along with a notarized certification. So, the woman who had refused to divorce him just yesterday had signed the papers today and didn’t want a single penny? She even transferred what was rightfully hers to him for free. Nicholas’s expression was momentarily blank, feeling something he couldn’t quite identify. What game was Emma playing now? "What else did she say?" Nicholas couldn't believe Emma would agree to the divorce so easily. A woman who had manipulated his grandfather to force him into marriage wouldn’t give up her position as CEO’s wife without a fight. Nicholas's brow furrowed deeper, his grip on the divorce papers tightening, creating several creases. His assistant, Adam Clarke, noticed Nicholas's dark expression and assumed Emma’s modifications to the agreement were excessively demanding. Silently, Adam scorned Emma. When Nicholas had Robert draft the divorce agreement, Adam was present and knew that Nicholas had been quite generous in the settlement. If Emma was still unsatisfied, Adam doubted whether she truly loved Nicholas or just his wealth. Out of curiosity, Adam sneaked a glance at the new divorce agreement. When he saw the content, he was as stunned as Nicholas. She had asked for nothing and even gifted Nicholas her shares as a divorce present? The 5% stake in Sinclair Corporation wasn’t much, but the annual dividends from those shares could sustain her for a lifetime. "Nothing else. Miss Whitman requested that you find time to finalize the divorce as soon as possible." Robert's reply didn’t bring Nicholas any relief. Instead, an unfamiliar irritation rose in his chest.
