Nate
It has been two days and Rayne is still not awake. The doctors say her brain is healing and everything is looking good. Her sleeping is just needed for the brain to heal itself. My mother has called me several times but I won’t take the call. I am still furious at her for coming into Rayne’s apartment and dropping a bomb like she did. Once Rayne wakes up we will get a test to see if we are related. If we are then we will discuss other options for having a family but I will not give up on being with Rayne just because of our parent’s infidelity years ago. We were not raised together so I would never feel for her the way I would a sibling, it is just not possible!
Rayne’s dad has been here many times but he always has her mother with him. I really want to talk to him about this but I don’t want to cause any pain for her mom anymore than I want to cause pain for my dad Nathan.
“Excuse me but there is a visitor.” A nurse told me “May I bring her in?”
“That depends, who is it?” I asked when I heard the refer to the visitor as a her
“She says her name is Eileen” the nurse replied
“No! She cannot come in!” I said boldly trying not to be too loud and upset Rayne.
The nurse left the room and shortly I felt someone in the room, I looked up and there stood my mom. I was beyond furious that she had the nerve to come here after all the trouble she had already caused for Rayne.
“Get out of here now!” I said with all the restraint I could muster
“Please, can we talk?” Mom replied
“You’ve said enough! Now leave! I refuse to let you upset Rayne in this delicate state.”
“I just need to explain.” She replied
I got up from my chair and nudged her out the door. I was not going to let Rayne hear anything she had to say. After she was out of my way I went to waiting area and she followed me.
“What.” I said in a pretty hateful voice. “What is so damn important I had to leave Rayne?”
“You don’t have to be so mean.” My mother hissed
“See ya.” I said as I started to leave the room.
“Wait!” Her voice sounded almost desperate at this point so I stopped. “I am truly sorry I blurted everything out in Rayne’s apartment. Seeing the two of you with mussed hair and sweaty bodies just made me snap.”
“I am 21 mother, I have a s*x life.” I snapped
“But you shouldn’t have one with her!”
“Well that is due to your past indiscretions mother, how could We have possibly know about all of that? I dated Rayne in high school but you never took time to find out anything about her, like who her parents were. We could have resolved a lot of things if only you had gave a s**t about my life back then.” All of my past frustration with my mother was at the surface. I knew I was being disrespectful but at this time I really didn’t care.
“I know, I was not a good parent Nate. But I am trying to save you some grief now.”
“Save me grief? Save me grief? You are trying to tear the woman I love away from me because you feel guilt from an affair you had over 20 years ago! That is between you and dad-leave me out of this!” I was really getting angry at this point!
“Do you really want to have a love affair with your sister?”
“I do if it is Rayne! I am looking in to DNA testing. If we are closely related than we will look to adopt children. Nothing is going to keep me away from Rayne mother, I love her and it is too damn late for you to change that now!”
My mother looked at me with rage in her eyes. “Fine, sin with your sister, see if I care.” And stomped out of the room.
I wanted to get back to Rayne but I was too pissed to be around her now so I went out to the parking garage and punched a sign. I cussed and paced until I cooled off. My mother thinks after I have fallen completely in love with someone I can just walk away like it was nothing. That woman has never took time to get to know anything about me at all. She was always gone with work or just not interested in anything I ever have done. My dad has always been the one there for me. And as far as I am concerned Nathan will always be by dad no matter who else my mother slept with in the past! He will never hear about her affair from me, I could never hurt him that way.
I returned to the hospital room and saw two nurses over Rayne.
“Is everything ok?” I asked a little nervous to hear the answer. I hope my mother did not upset her!
“She raised her arm and set off the IV alarm.” One nurse explained.
“Is that a good sign?” I asked “ she hasn’t moved on her own since she got here.”
“She could becoming more alert. We have notified the neurologist.” The other nurse said.
