A PAIR OF BROWN EYES
>>>Señor Julio
"What did you just say? Cancelled? Are you playing your tricks with me again, Gabriel, aren't you?!!" guests looked at me confused.
I lower my voice not to cause a scene. I am beyond furious. This engagement cannot be cancelled. This was the only way to boost the market value of our stocks. I stormed out the ballroom and find my son in the corridor, in his arms is the sobbing heiress of the Marquez. I was already deeming he broke the engagement because of that rotten bastard he fell in love with.
"GABRIEL CARLOS!!!"
"I really do apologize Señor Julio, it was very unexpected to say the least but I can't go on with the celebration with my family currently in demise", Heira butt in. "I called if off. Lo siento Señor", she explained.
I am puzzled on what the hell is wrong with her cancelling the engagement. I look at Gabriel with a questioning look.
"Tio Andres was found dead in the comfort room a while go, dad",he answered.
So it was not his fault then, it was Alvero's brother. I heaved a sigh. I pat Gabriel's back and tell him I'll be leaving them both behind. I called Maggie to meet me at the office and revise the plan for now.
As I was retreating down the stairs, I can sense someone was looking at me. I scan the crowd and was shocked to found a pair of brown eyes staring straight at me. Those eyes that has been haunting me for years. I almost lost my balance if I haven't grab the railing.
"Julio, what's wrong?" Martha must have followed me when I left the hall earlier. "You look so pale, it seemed you saw a ghost".
"A-A G-ghost..", I look around but found no brown eyes staring back at me. I must be imagining things. "Nothing, have Albert drive you home, I have to meet Maggie to discuss some things".
She didn't disagree. Martha was always been a submissive wife to me. A perfect wife for display. We never had an heated argument throughout our marriage for she always do as I say. She never challenged my decisions. A part I found boring with her. She can't be compared to the love of my life, Karla.
++++++
Karla was the exact opposite of Martha. My smart and strong Karla, who was very outspoken and adventurous. Speaking her mind out as she wanted to be heard all the times. Her brown eyes matches her tanned skin for always staying outside. Her wavy hair is always on the loss showing how outgoing she is. She's an epitome of beauty. And it has been a great challenge to me. I never won in any games- horse racing, not even in chess against her. And never did I win her love and affection, too. I always wanted her- her heart and soul. But she loves me only as a close friend. Her heart belongs to someone else, my ultimate rival, Damien Salazar. He stole her from me.
When I went back to the hacienda after years of studying abroad, I learned Karla married Damien Salazar. They already have a son. I saw her one time outside their villa. She was busy playing with her son and when she turned around, I could see she was pregnant with another. She smiled at me and waved. I waved back and drove away. Away from my brown eyes….
++++++
I swear I saw Karla back in the hotel earlier. It was her eyes that I saw back there. How could that be? It's too Impossible! She died years ago. I even attended her funeral. Their funeral- hers and Damien. And so was her daughter Kareezha, I killed her myself when I learned she was having a little love affair with my unico hijo. But those brown eyes earlier were indeed very very familiar. The ones affectionate and full of life were staring at me blankly, as if there's no soul within.
"We are here, Señor" Maloch announced.
I was brought back from my deep thoughts when Maloch open the door on my seat. I must have been too stressed lately I've been imagining things. They're all gone now. This time, I have to deal with the current crisis I'm facing. This has to be resolved before everything I've worked on goes down the drain.

Meanwhile, while Gabriel was waiting for Heira who went to the comfort room, he was fidgeting with his phone when he sense that he was being observed. He scan the crowd and unexpectedly, his eyes meet the source of the dagger stares creeping in him. That brown eyes whom he cherish the most.
"Kareezha…", he whispered.
The brown eyes that no longer shown the affection for him but filled with nothingness.
Gabriel slowly move from where he was and taking steps forward still locking his side gaze on that brown eyes.
"Babe?!" Heira distracted Gabriel. "Shall we?", she cling unto his right arm. Gabriel look around, and that brown eyes were nowhere in sight.
"Let's go", he assisted Heira down the stairs and into his car.
He looked back one more time but couldn't find her anymore. "Maybe I was just imagining things", shrugging off the odd feeling that was stir within him. His longing creep in and so as the hope that maybe, just maybe, she was indeed alive, but where would she be?
>>>
She never expected to meet him in this hotel. She was here for a job. Surprised was an understatement. Mixed feeling wanted to arise but she have to suppress them. She dared let the old devil earlier look straight into her eyes and got satisfied with his reaction. He was one demon she wanted to kill right on the spot but no, he deserved more than that. When he got distracted, she moved swiftly and hid herself. She's not ready to face him yet.
So, he's now engaged to that woman, a smirk in her lips. Leaving her behind, she suffered more than he could imagine. She vowed to let him feel what she felt was losing her life. She looked up holding the tears that were about to fall. She saw Gabriel looking back as if looking for her. When their car left, the engine of her motorbike drove away from the hotel, grabbing some take out food before heading back to her place. She deserves a good rest after a well done job. A rest for her winding up emotions. The Montenegros, She hates them more than anything on earth. And she will put that hatred to an end. For good.
