As tears pricked the corners of my eyes, I heard Mason let out a low snarl, but it quickly faded. His expression seemed softer than usual, more composed than the guarded look he typically wore. I couldn’t help but question: What was going on? Hugging myself as a chill settled over me, I watched him approach and stand directly in front of me, his gaze unwavering. “You’ve always been full of surprises, you know that, right?” he murmured, and I nodded, my eyes wide, searching his for some hidden meaning.
