Daisy let out a big yawn, ohhh, I do not like mornings. She thought to herself grumpily. It is so warm and cozy in my bed of blankets. I will just close my eyes for a little bit longer. Just then there was a loud bang and a whooshing noise from outside the house! Followed by the steady beep, beep, beep, beep, sound of the trash truck backing out of the driveway.
Daisy shot out of bed in a fit of barks. Bark, Bark, Bark, Bark. GRRRR. Bark, Bark. There it was again. That big noisy trash truck. How dare it keep coming back after I have made it very clear it is not welcome here. I must protect my family from this loud giant that comes every week to steal my family’s trash right out of their dumpster!
Bark, Bark, Bark, Grrrrr, Bark. Daisy, hush! I heard my human mom say from the living room. My barks quiet down, a little, but I can’t help myself. I am so upset, the nerve of this truck and to top it off somehow, I am the one getting in trouble and not that thieving truck. Ugh, did she not see it? Surely, she heard it?
I try so hard to keep the barks from escaping, but I just can’t do it. Ghostly sounds escape from my mouth. OOooOOoo, Ahah, Ah, Rrrr, mmm, OOooOOoo, ah, bark! Daisy! He’s picking up our trash, like he does every week, now hush. Tail tucked between my legs and head hung in shame, I walked back to my bed, voicing my complaints, the whole way. OOooOOoo, Ah. Rrrrrr, OOooOOoo, Rrrr.
Well, my human clearly can’t see and hear the dangers. They were so unaware, she thought to herself. She sighed, and let out a yawn, ohhh, the things I must do to keep them safe. They clearly can’t protect themselves. Oh well, and with that her eyes closed, and she was fast asleep.
Daisy, Frankie is here. I stirred in my sleep, lifting one ear to hear a little better. Hi Frankie! I heard her say excitedly as she opened the door, and he ran into the house. I immediately shot up. Frankie is my next-door neighbor and my best friend. We have been friends for a very long time. He was here for a play date. Bark, Rrrrr, Ah, I voiced excitedly.
We started by racing around the house, we played tag, and I was it. Frankie was so fast; I couldn’t catch him. He spun around and zoomed back towards me; we were running straight at each other when he shot up in the air and jumped straight over me. Aarf, I let out a squeal of excitement as I spun around to chase after him again.
After racing around for a good while, we decided to take a quick snack break. I was thirsty, and he was hungry. So, we made our way into the kitchen where my food bowls were. After drinking my fill, I sat down, my tail wagging as I watched him eat my food. He continued to eat. Hey, I jumped up and shoved my face in the bowel taking a bite, save some for me!
Uh oh, we both looked at each other. Gotta go, we bolted to the front door. I jumped up, putting my front paws on the door and turning back to look in the direction my human had went. Ruff, Ruff, Ruff. I said over and over until she came to see what I wanted. We need to go potty. Let us outside please. She walked over and opened the door.
We rushed outside, Frankie went to his usual spot where the boys like to pee on the big tree. I ran back and forth across the yard, smelling the ground, looking for that perfect spot. Ahh ha, this spot will do just fine. Thank goodness we don’t wear those silly bottoms that humans do. I would never have made it, I thought to myself as I watered the grass. When I had finished, I scratched at the ground with my back paws, kicking the grass and dirt loose and flinging it behind me.
Satisfied with a job well done, I bolted across the yard to find Frankie. Expecting him to jump to the side, I continued to run straight towards him. Only Frankie was too busy smelling something and wasn’t paying attention. We collided and both went tumbling across the grass. We shot up and immediately started a game of tag.
After a while, my human mom let us back in. We hopped up on the couch, tired after playing so hard, we decided to take a nap. I curled up on the side of the couch where the sun came through the window. It felt wonderful. Frankie stood next to me and gave me a kiss on the cheek before snuggling up next to me. I am going to spend the rest of my life with Frankie, I thought to myself as we drifted off to sleep.
When we woke next, it was time for Frankie to go home. Bark, Ruff, we said excitedly to one another, our tails wagging. We gave each other a quick kiss goodbye by touching our noses together. See you tomorrow, Frankie, I said happily. Frankie responded," I wouldn’t miss it Daisy, it’s my favorite time of the day. When they left, I ran to the window, standing like a prairie dog, so I could see outside. OOooOOoo, Rrrr, Ah, Ah, Rrrr. I voiced as I watched them leave.
When they were finally out of view, I decided to go see what my human was up too. Yes! She was in the kitchen. I love it when she’s in the kitchen. I sat by her feet, mouth starting to water as I watched her every move in hopes she would drop something for me to clean up. Sniff, I smelled the air, my tail involuntarily started wagging excitedly. It smelled soooo good.
Just then, the entry door squeaked open. Bark, Bark, Bark, Grrrrr, Bark, Bark. I shot out of the kitchen to see who the intruder was. To my surprise, it was my human dad and their small human. OOooOOoo, Ah, Ah, Rrr, OOooOOoo, I voiced with excitement. Bouncing up and down at their feet and jumping up on their legs.
Well, it’s a Daaaissy…. My human dad said happy to see me as he leaned down to give me a pat. How’s my Daisy doing, he asked again. Ruff, Ruff, OoOOoo, I replied. Happy to tell him about my day. Their small human giggled and said there’s ghostly hallows. My attention switched to her, and I ran to her and jumped up against her. Oww, No Daisy! She said as she pushed me back onto all fours. That hurts! Stay down.
Well, I thought to myself, I guess she is not as excited to see me as I am her. It didn’t hurt me, so I don’t know what she is talking about. I let out a big sneeze, to show my disapproval. Before returning to the kitchen to see how things were going there. The smell was wonderful. I licked my lips to gather the drool forming.
Dinner, she called out. She then made everyone their plates and took it to them. As they sat down to eat that mouthwatering food. I lay patiently off to the side, watching and waiting. Hopeful that a morsel may fall to the floor. Sometimes I get lucky and the little human drops things. I am not supposed to eat human food, but it sure tastes much better than dry kibble. I groaned as my belly grumbled, begging me to eat.
After dinner, she cleaned up and joined everyone else on the couch for a snuggle and a movie. I, of course, was already in my spot, on my human dad’s lap. That is my spot, but that small human always tries to take it. I sighed inwardly. It is so tough being a dog. Daisy’s coat is starting to get long and prickly again, and she is shedding, my human dad said. I know she is starting to look scruffy again, I will get it taken care of tomorrow, my human mom responded.
She then asked if I wanted to go outside. I immediately looked the other way and stared at dad. When he also suggested that I go outside before bedtime. I ran to my kennel and pouted. They know I don’t like the dark, the porch light does not help, it is also so chilly at nighttime. No, I refuse. I will not go outside. I curled up in my bed, turning my back to them. I ignored them both. How dare they ask such a thing? Nope, I will hold it until morning. The house grew quiet, and I fell asleep.
