CHAPTER FIVE
Logan
I left the study because my father and Austin were getting along well. When I came out, Wendy was already waiting, tapping her foot on the floor and biting her fingernails—she was furious.
MG rushed over to me. “Tell your mistress to stop. She’s making the guests nervous,” she said.
I went to Wendy, pulled her upstairs to my room, and locked the door.
“Listen, Wendy, just stay calm,” I said in a calm, cold voice.
Wendy grinned, annoyed. “Stay calm? You cheated on me! You bastard!” she yelled.
I couldn’t help myself and burst out laughing. “Cheated on you? God. Pet is such a good woman and didn’t deserve this,” I said.
“Pet is the woman you cheated on me with?” she asked.
“No, Wendy, no. I cheated on her, not you!” I screamed.
She was surprised. “What?”
“Yes, Wendy. And if you know what’s best for you, stay calm and let me handle everything, or you’ll end up in hell.” I shouted it and stormed out. I knew I’d scared her, but it was the only way to protect her.
MG came over to me. “You’re unbelievable,” she spat out.
“I know,” I said.
“I know I despise Pet, but this one’s no better,” MG said, leaving me alone with my thoughts.
After the party, it was time for dinner. Pet still hadn’t arrived, nor had her mother or my brother. We all sat down at the table and were served. I whispered to Mia, who was sitting across from me, “Did you get hold of her?” She shook her head.
“Where’s Marcus?” asked DS (Director Salinger).
Just then, Marcus, Petunia, and her mother walked in.
“Sorry I’m late,” said Mrs. Jones, Pet’s mother, hurrying over to DS and greeting him in French.
She brought out DS’s favorite wine, and his face lit up. “Thank you. You always know how to get me,” he said, and Mrs. Jones smiled.
“You know, Mrs. Jones, sometimes I think you’re trying to steal my husband’s favorite spot at my place,” said MG, and Mrs. Jones laughed. “Of course not, I would never dare to take the queen’s seat.”
Petunia’s face wasn’t smiling—she was in a bad mood. She sat down opposite me, and Wendy was visibly shocked. Wendy turned to me and shouted, “My surgeon was your wife? Right?”
The room fell silent, and Marcus laughed derisively.
"No manners!" MG snorted.
Mrs. Jones was confused and asked, "Two guests? What's going on?"
Mia whispered, "She's Logan's mistress, and this is his son."
"What?!" Mrs. Jones shouted.
DS became visibly angry. "Quiet, everyone! Enough!" he roared, and everyone fell silent.
He turned to Wendy, who was ready to attack both me and Pet.
"There's a child here. Shouldn't you consider that? What will the boy think of his father?" DS demanded.
Wendy spat out, "His father is a fraud, and my son doesn't deserve him. He must have gotten that from you, Director Salinger."
Everyone was stunned as her words echoed through the room.
“How dare you speak to my husband like that? What a crazy woman!” MG shouted.
DS stood up and went into his study. Marcus grinned. “I think someone really is going to die tonight, just like Pet predicted.”
Pet looked at him but remained silent. Mia whispered to her, “What’s wrong?” But she didn’t answer.
Wendy said to Pet, “Why didn’t you tell me? You saw us both at the hospital, but you didn’t say a word.” Petunia didn’t reply.
A moment later, DS returned with a gun and pointed it at Wendy, who froze in fear. Austin did too.
“Grandpa, what are you doing?” Austin said, standing up to protect his mother, but everyone else and I stayed seated.
Austin turned to me. “Dad, do something.”
Marcus signaled to a security guard, and they dragged Austin away. Wendy was terrified.
In the silence of the room, Petunia dropped a bombshell as she stood up: "I'm filing for divorce."
"What?"
