Catching up

1042 Words
"Hey Dahlia, I guess I knew I might run into you here,” Tessy said, avoiding Damien's gaze and smiling at her friend with trembling lips. “Oh God, how long has it been, six years? "You look so good,” Dahlia replied as she dragged her hand away from her brother, stepping towards her friend. Tessy opened up her arms, and they wrapped each other in a passionate hug. Damien just stood by the door, studying Tessy's upturned face as her incredibly long eyelashes rested on her cheeks. Damien was quite sure that he had never met her before, because if he had, he would remember those green eyes, yet he found her familiar. As they disengaged from the hug, Dahlia pointed towards him. “This is my brother, Damien. I probably talked so much about him when we were in school that you got tired of me.” “And this is Tessy Williams, my roommate from uni. "I could say she adored you as much as I did,” Dahlia said, and Tessy blushed, looking embarrassed. “Have I met her before?” Damien voiced the question in his head out loud. “No, no, anytime you came to see me, she was always not around, but I am sure I showed you her pictures once or twice before,” Dahlia replied. “How come I didn't see her on your graduation day?” Damien asked. “Because you stayed for less than five minutes for pictures, and then you were gone, and I thought you were going for a conference,” Dahlia said slyly, noticing Damien's lingering gaze on Tessy. Damien let out a cough, seeing how Tessy lowered her long eyelashes to cover her eyes shyly. “That's quite true; I should let you two friends catch up. Nice to meet you, by the way,” and with that, Damien stepped back into his office and closed the door. “”””””””“ "Just wow, Dahlia, your brother is freaking good-looking; the media did not do him justice for real—he looks much better in person!” Tessy exclaimed as they walked towards the maternity ward. “You watched Damien on TV?” Dahlia asked, surprised.“Well, I saw him on the news in passing,” Tessy said, blushing, and Dahlia's eyes lit up as an idea formed in her head. “That's true, Damien is quite popular,” Dahlia said, not mentioning the fact that Lucas is even more popular because he had been in combat training so he could volunteer as a doctor in the army, and he had come back a hero. Yet, it was Damien that Tessy seemed fixated on. “But why will your brother need a matchmaker?” Tessy asked, sounding like she was wondering to herself. But before Dahlia could answer the question, the door to the maternity ward opened, and Dahlia walked over to the receptionist so they could ask where the newborn mother was, and they were directed to her ward. “Are you not on duty?” Tessy asked again.“No, no, it's alright; I did the night shift, so I am kind of free right now.” “Okay, thank you for helping me, and we do have a lot to catch up on later,” Tessy said, her eyes twinkling, showing a little glimpse of her mischievous self before they graduated. As they were about to step into the ward, the door burst open, and a man came out.“Tess, you made it,” the man said, surprised. “Oh, Carmine, I am so happy to see you. "How are Linda and the baby?” Tessy said as she hugged the man who was beaming from ear to ear. He seemed to be the new father in town, as he smiled at Dahlia as well. “Dahlia Winthrop, a nurse from this hospital and Tessy's friend,” Dahlia introduced herself, and Carmine raised his eyebrows at her surname. “Yes, yes, she is one of the Winthrops, and this is Carmine Locke, our new daddy,” Tessy introduced, and they all let out a little laughter as they stepped into the room where the newborn baby and mother were. “Oh, Linda, she is a beauty; she has your hair,” Tessy said to the redhead on the bed as she held the baby, her tone filled with wonder. And Dahlia watched her friend, the expression on her face, and how precious she held the baby, and Dahlia came to one conclusion. All Tessy's actions and expressions are those of a woman full of affection and love; she would definitely want a family of her own. “I am so glad you could come; you gave us her. By bringing us together, you gave us her. "She is so wonderful,” Linda replied, reclining on the pillow and watching the baby with emotion. “I agree, she is beautiful,” Tessy said, and Dahlia could hear the tears in her voice. Dahlia couldn't tell what it was, but her friend had definitely been hurt by love. “Congratulations, you make a beautiful mother, and your baby is a beauty too,” Dahlia, who had been silent all along, said as she went to touch the baby for the first time. “I hope I will be a good mother to her; it is as scary as it is exhilarating,” Linda said, and Dahlia smiled at her in reassurance. “You will make a great mother,” Dahlia reassured, a phrase she had repeated a lot of times to newborn mothers, yet she cannot always be sure if it is true. “I should go now. It's nice to meet you, Linda, and your baby is beautiful. "Tessy, I will call you,” Dahlia said, and with that she headed for the door. “And I might give your contact to Damien,” Dahlia said on second thought, as she held the door handle.Tessy looked at her, and she appeared startled at her words. “I mean, if he needs your help, that is,” Dahlia explained, and Tessy bit her lips at her embarrassing thoughts.
