When Silence Spoke

298 Words
The car ride back home was quiet. Aria looked out the window, the soft hum of the engine lulling her into a strange sense of calm. The outing had gone better than she expected, and for the first time, she didn’t feel like she was trapped in a stranger’s life. Ethan kept his eyes on the road, but every now and then, he glanced at her. She looked peaceful… different from the girl who had stared at him with pure resentment the day they got married. “Are you okay?” he asked softly. She turned to him, surprised by the gentleness in his tone. “Yes. Just... thinking.” “About?” he asked, a small smile playing on his lips. Aria hesitated. “About how weird this is. You. Me. This marriage. But today... it felt a little less weird.” That made Ethan glance at her again, longer this time. “I’m glad. I want you to feel comfortable.” There was a beat of silence. Then, he added, “You don’t have to pretend with me, Aria. I know this isn’t what you wanted. But I’m not here to control your life. We can take things one day at a time.” She felt something shift inside her. His words weren’t just kind — they felt sincere. “Thank you,” she whispered. Back at the house, they entered quietly. The hallway light flickered, casting soft shadows on the wall. As they reached her room, Aria paused. “Ethan?” He stopped and looked at her. “I... I don’t hate you,” she said quietly, looking down. A faint smile touched his lips. “That’s a good start.” And for the first time, Aria smiled back. ✨ Written by MD NURUL ✨
