CHAPTER SIXTEEN
we had a deal
Somehow, I manage the short walk to my office. Harmony, sprawled on the floor with Humboldt and Katniss, has—for once—obeyed and stayed behind my closed door, but her wide eyes ask questions I cannot answer.
“It’s all right, kiddo, everything’s OK,” I say. Rupert follows me in and closes the door behind us.
“It’s not OK, or all those people wouldn’t have gone running into the conference room. Is it about Finan? Does that lady from the dead-end woods have him?”
I freeze and look between Harmony and Rupert. s**t.
I kneel before her, smoothing stray hairs out of her eyes and tucking them into her side braid. “Remember, we can’t talk about that lady. You cannot tell anyone about what you saw.”
“Sorry. But Uncle Rupert knows everything, anyway.”
