"Mother," I said, exhaling an exasperated sigh "Are you staying the night?" I always wished that she would give me notice before visiting. Mother always arrived without warning and usually outstayed her welcome. I think she felt like I owed her one, after giving birth to me and raising me as a child, I would spend the rest of my life serving her as she wished.
