Chapter Two“That’s the last one.” Alex declared with a sigh of relief. He put the final puppy in the last pen, these ones far more spacious with each little one getting their own bed, some water and a couple of toys. Most of the puppies and kittens had gone to sleep, but a few were still awake, and Max could hear the dinging of the bells inside the little balls. He had no idea how they could have energy at this time of the night. He yawned loudly and rubbed at his eyes as he peeled off his mask. “What time is it?” Alex checked his watch.
