24. Friends and Enemies

I stepped out of the house, taking a deep breath of the Granville air. I could feel the tension radiating off of Morgan beside me. "Ready?" I asked, my voice barely a whisper. Morgan nodded and entwined his fingers with mine. "Let's go," he responded. The sun hung low in the sky, casting long shadows on the forest floor. A crisp cool breeze blew through the trees, rustling the leaves and bringing with it a hint of sweet pine. The air crackled with energy and anticipation like the forest knew what was about to happen. We ventured further into the woods, passing trees and shrubs that slowly turned into a blur. Neither of us spoke, but I could feel Morgan's fear as if it was my own. I reached out and squeezed his hand, giving him my silent assurance that I would be with him no matter what
