68. Everything and Nothing

Greta Lovelace I stirred in bed, slowly opening my eyes. Everything around me was blurry and fuzzy, but I could make out a figure sitting on my chest. My vision cleared and I saw that it was Mel, my rabbit familiar. She stared at me with her big, black eyes and let out a small squeal when she realized I was awake. Smiling, I reached forward to pet her thick fur. "Hey there girl," I said softly. "You're always trying to look after me." Mel nuzzled into my hand and then snuggled close to me as if she was relieved that I had woken up. "Thank you," I said with a smile as tears filled my eyes. "I'm so grateful for everything you do for me." Mel gave another little squeak before hopping down from the bed and running off to explore the room. I watched her go with a warm feeling in my hea
