Come with me

1135 Words
Jessica remained on the balcony long after Alexander disappeared inside. The city stretched out below her, glittering like a thousand temptations. She touched her lips, still swollen from his kiss, her body humming with the memory of his touch. The woman’s eyes had unsettled her, sharp, assessing, cold. Whoever she was, her presence had cut the moment short, leaving Jessica trembling between desire and doubt. Finally, she drew a shaky breath and stepped back into the suite. The party still thrived, champagne flowing, laughter echoing, deals whispered in corners but Jessica felt out of place now, too exposed, as though everyone could see what had just happened on the balcony. Her gaze swept the room, searching for Alexander. She found him near the piano, speaking to a group of men in suits. His expression was cool, composed, no trace of the fire he had shown her minutes ago. He looked untouchable again, as if the balcony kiss had never happened. But then, his eyes lifted, meeting hers across the room. The air shifted. Heat pooled low in her belly as his gaze lingered, sharp and unrelenting. He didn’t smile, didn’t nod, didn’t acknowledge her beyond that steady, piercing look. Yet it was enough to ignite her all over again. Jessica turned away quickly, her cheeks burning. She found refuge near the bar, ordering a drink she didn’t need. The glass was cold against her palm, but nothing could cool the heat coursing through her. “First time here?” a voice asked. Jessica looked up to see the same elegant woman who had interrupted them on the balcony. Her diamonds caught the light, her perfume sharp, her smile thin. “Yes,” Jessica said carefully. The woman tilted her head, studying her the way a hawk studies prey. “Alexander doesn’t usually entertain strangers.” Jessica’s stomach tightened. “We just… talked.”. A laugh, low and humorless. “Is that what you call it?” She leaned closer, her tone dripping with warning. “Take some advice, dear. Don’t confuse his attention with affection. Alexander takes what interests him, but nothing keeps him for long.” Jessica swallowed, her fingers tightening around her glass. She wanted to deny it, to argue, but the woman’s words left a seed of doubt in her chest. The woman straightened, her smile sharp as glass. “Enjoy the party.” Then she walked away, her heels clicking like a gavel striking judgment. Jessica’s breath shook. She glanced back toward Alexander, only to find him watching her again. This time, when their eyes met, a faint smirk curved his lips dangerously, knowing. Her pulse jumped. She set her drink down, the glass half full, and turned away. But before she could take two steps, a hand closed gently yet firmly around her wrist. Jessica froze, then looked up. Alexander stood before her, his presence eclipsing everything else. His fingers were warm against her skin, his grip unyielding but not painful. “Come with me,” he said. Her breath hitched. “Where?” His eyes darkened, his mouth tilting into something between a smile and a challenge. “Somewhere quieter.”. Jessica’s pulse hammered as he guided her through the crowd, his hand never leaving hers. She knew she should resist. She knew she should remember the woman’s warning. But the heat of his touch drowned every rational thought. He led her down a hallway lined with gold-framed mirrors and plush carpets. Each step echoed in her chest. They stopped before a door, and Alexander pushed it open, revealing a smaller lounge lit by the soft glow of wall sconces. The noise of the party faded. The air here was thicker, heavier, scented with leather and expensive whiskey. Alexander closed the door behind them, shutting the world out. He turned to her slowly, his gaze sweeping over her in deliberate silence. Jessica’s back pressed instinctively against the nearest wall. Her breathing quickened as he moved toward her, his strides controlled, purposeful. When he stood before her, his hand braced beside her head, caging her in, his voice dropped to a murmur. “Do you always run when warned away?” Jessica’s chest rose and fell. “Should I?” His lips curved faintly. “You should. But you didn’t.” She met his eyes, heat and defiance warring inside her. “Maybe I don’t like being told what to do.” The smirk deepened, dangerous and approving. “Careful, Jessica. I might like that answer too much.” Her body ached for him, for his mouth, his hands, his everything. But still, he didn’t touch her, not fully. He hovered close, his breath brushing her cheek, his heat wrapping around her, teasing her with what he could give and what he was holding back. Jessica’s hands trembled at her sides. She wanted to reach for him, to bridge the last inch, but pride kept her still. Alexander leaned closer, his lips nearly at her ear. “Tell me what you’re afraid of.” Her pulse thundered. “I’m not afraid.”. “Liar,” he murmured, his lips grazing the shell of her ear, sending sparks racing down her spine. “Your body knows the truth, even if your mouth won’t say it.” Jessica bit back a gasp, her eyes fluttering shut. His hand finally moved, tracing her arm, sliding down to her wrist, then lacing his fingers through hers. The simple hold was intimate, binding, as though he had just claimed her without permission. Jessica’s whole body leaned toward him, craving more. And then he stepped back. The sudden distance left her dizzy, her body aching from the loss of contact. Alexander’s eyes burned into hers, his breathing heavier now, though his expression was carefully controlled. “I want you, Jessica,” he said, his voice low, deliberate. “But I won’t take you here. Not yet.” Her breath caught. Not yet. The promise in those two words sent heat rushing through her all over again. Before she could reply, the door opened suddenly. A man entered, eyes widening when he saw them. He stammered an apology, but the damage was done. The spell shattered. Alexander’s expression turned cold. “Out.” The man fled without another word, leaving the door half open behind him. Jessica’s pulse still raced, her lips parted, her body trembling. Alexander looked at her one last time, his jaw tight, his eyes unreadable. Then he straightened, pulling his composure back around him like armor.“Go back to the party,” he said quietly, but firmly. “If you stay here with me, I won’t stop next time.” And with that, he walked past her, leaving her pressed against the wall, breathless and undone, desperate for more.
