TRIALS OF AN AUTHORESSThere is this to be said for a short week-end, that it leaves less time for an anti-climax. Even so, Saturday evening is often the high-water mark of enjoyment, while Sunday is a slight disappointment. And when the party has begun on Friday, there is even more chance that Sunday will be a little off colour. So far Lord Pomfret’s mixed house-party had been quite successful. The games on Friday night had been by no means to everyone’s taste, but some people had played them and some had very pleasantly avoided or thwarted them.
