Maya stared at the person in front of her.
Her mind just can’t accept the fact that not only does she have a wolf but also a mate? She lived her whole life thinking she was a cursed girl. But now...
A full-blown smile made way to her face.
"Mate!" she repeated taking a step forward. But her smile falters when he took a step back.
She tilted her head confused at her mate's reaction.
Huh?
Does he not want her? Is he going to reject her?
Fear made way to her mind and her heart felt pained at the very thought.
Of course, he will reject her. She is just a useless girl everyone hates. She is born with the curse of having no happiness.
"Wear this" her mate's voice suddenly rose. He took off his sweater and threw it to her.
She immediately obeys, not wanting to stand n***d any longer. The sweater hung just above her knees and swayed in the wind since it was too big for her.
Her mate's scent was very strong in the cloth that she couldn't help but sniff it.
Vince, on the other hand, stayed there and observed what it seems to be his second chance mate.
It's only rare, very rare, that wolves are given a second chance mate.
But is he ready for another? No. His heart still belongs to his Loreal. The one who will forever hold his heart.
Perhaps he should reject her? No. Rejecting will make her go rogue and wild. He wouldn't forgive himself for destroying someone's life.
"Mate" she repeated gaining his attention.
He stared at her up and down making her go nervous.
She had grayish white wavy hair that goes just below her shoulder. Her eyes were a pair of bright blue orbs and beautiful light freckles on her decorated her pale skin.
He frowned as his eyes roamed through all the b****y wounds and scratch marks. There were bite marks also. Some looked a little dry and half healed while others freshly made.
"Is she really your mate?" Danni, his best friend, and Gamma asked making the beta divert his eyes from his second chance mate.
He looked at his friend and slowly nodded trying hard to register.
"Congrats brother. Moon Goddess gave you another chance of love!" the gamma excitedly said as the latter's eyes widened.
"No," he said stepping back as his eyes went back to the petite women. He kept stepping back but stopped when she whimpered, her eyes filled with hurt and pain.
He stood still conflicted on what to do. The girl shivered at the cold grabbing his attention.
He will think about it later. Right now she looks cold.
"Danni. Take her to the packhouse," he said as he turned to leave.
"Mate! What about you" she asked once again stopping him. "I m-mean. A-arent you c-coming" she stumbled looking down.
"I'm going for a run. I have to check the borders. Danni here is the gamma and he will take you to the packhouse" he said as the latter nodded her head.
"Okay..." she said as his mate ran off.
'Does he hate us?' she asked her wolf.
'No, he doesn't. He just needs time' Her wolf, Loreal, said sadly.
'Time for what' she asked confused to which her wolf just shook her head.
'You will know in due time' Lo said before going to the back of her mind.
Loreal wanted nothing more than to tell her human about her mate's story, about her being his first mate, about the second chance the kind Moon Goddess gave her.
But she couldn't. At least not right now.
"Shall we go?" Danni asked as Maya nodded her head.
"You all continue with your duty. I'll take her to the packhouse" Danni said to the rest of the warriors as they nodded and ran off.
Both of them started walking their way to the packhouse and the air gave out an uncomfortable feel.
"Umm, how long?" she asked as her leg started to burn with pain.
"About 15 mins if we are walking at this pace," he said as he took a quick glance at the girl. She groaned in distress at the thought of walking that long with her injured leg.
"I could have carried you but you hurt my ribs pretty bad. So it's out of option" he said making her groan again.
The other laughed and looked at her amused.
He was happy that his best friend was given a second chance mate. Perhaps with her help, he will get back his old, cheerful, and sarcastic friend.
"What's your name?" he asked trying to start a proper conversation.
"Maya," she said giving him a small smile.
"My name is Daniel. You can call me Danni" he said.
"Nice to meet you, Danni," she said making him smile.
"I'm sorry for how Vince acted. He was not like this," he said making her look at him confused.
"Vince?" she asked confused.
"Your mate. His name is Vince," he said.
"Vince" she whispered loving the way his name rolled out of her mouth.
"What happened," she asked skipping to meet his pace.
"It's not my role to say. But I'm sure he will come around, now that you are here. Just don't give up on him so soon" he said as she nodded her head slowly.
What happened to her mate?
"We are here," he said bringing her back from her thoughts.
She looked ahead and met with the most beautiful mansion she had ever seen. It was huge. Twice as big as her old one.
"Come on," he said as he walked inside. She followed in as she gawked at each and everything inside the house.
The furniture, to the walls, to the carpets, all screamed elegance and royalty.
"Woah" the words escaped her lips and the others chuckled.
"I know right. It is a masterpiece. Our Luna renovated this" he said proudly.
"Wow she knows architecture," she said looking around.
"She is royalty," he said as Maya looked at him in confusion.
"You might probably know her. She is the Luna who is a sorcerer" he said as her eyes widened in surprise.
"Wait! The powerful queen who brought unity between the werewolves and sorcerers?!" she said as he nodded his head in amusement.
"The Queen who is ruling both the sorcerers and werewolves?" she asked as he nodded again.
"Wait! I'm in the Crescent Pride Pack?!" she screamed as the others laughed at her reaction.
"Yes you are"
She looked around again in shock. The Crescent Pride Pack is the talk of her pack. Stories of the Alpha and Luna spread like wild fire. The brave fight they went through, the story of the lost life of the Beta's.... mate.
Her eyes widened as she remembered the story.
"Is Vince..." she faltered taking a deep breath. "Is Vince the same Vince in the stories... The Beta who lost his mate at the battle?" she asked as he looked at her with wide eyes.
"Maya..." he said conflicted to what he should say. She looked at his eyes in hopes that he would say no. She pleaded to the moon Goddess that he says no.
She had heard the story of the love between the Beta and his mate. The tragic story of his loss. The change the beta had undergone when he lost his love.
"He is," Danni said as she felt her whole world crumble.
"But please don't leave him. You are his only hope" he said as he grabbed her hand.
"He will love you. He will be his usual self. Only you can do that. The goddess gave him a second chance to live. Please don't give up on him" he pleaded.
'Please, Maya. Give our mate a chance.' her wolf, Lo pleaded
"Ok," she said as both Danni and my wolf jumped in happiness.
"Thank you," they said simultaneously making her laugh.
