Denver. I lingered for a while outside the club, watching the cab taking Zee home fade into the night. Once I couldn’t see the cab any more, I pulled out my phone to check if it was heading toward her address. I couldn’t quite put into words what was happening to me or maybe I didn’t want to. Maybe I was refusing to admit the pull she had over me, this storm she stirred up every time we were alone. There was something about her, an inner calmness that shouldn’t exist in someone her age. I kept reminding myself that she was too young, far too young, but that didn’t change the way my pulse shifted when she was near me. I hated how much space she took up in my thoughts.
