CHAPTER 4 "Don't act as if you're blind. You know my boss likes you," she said, her eyes narrowing as if she were trying to pierce through my naivety. Horror washed over me. "That old man?!” I exclaimed. “He could help your situation," she persuaded, her voice dripping with insincerity. "I don't want that kind of help," I shot back, my voice trembling with anger and betrayal. "Was that why you befriended me?" "Well…" she hesitated, the truth hanging in the air like a dark cloud. "It is, right?” “Come on Liliana, don't be such a baby, he promised me a raise, and who knows, it might have worked out for you two." "Worked out?" I asked in disbelief, stepping back, the realization hitting me like a cold wave. So she was just using me too, just like everyone else. I laughed hysterically as I turned towards the exit. "Liliana!" She called. I ignored her. I need to get out of this town as soon as possible. As I exited the bar, a sense of foreboding enveloped me. Why do I have to meet such people? A burden of betrayal pressed down on my heart. My existence resembled a maze of lies, and I wept silently, desperate for an escape. Firstly, I have to quit my job as a waitress. Yesterday was my day off, but today I had to work, collect my salary, and finally break free from this toxic environment. When I got home, I took some aspirin to get rid of my headache, and packed my belongings with a sense of urgency. The sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows in my room as I dressed for work. My phone rang again for what seemed like the twentieth time. The unusual number on the screen indicates that it can only be that despicable man, Mr. Garrettson. So I ignored it again. As I entered the casino, the atmosphere was electric, the sounds of laughter and clinking glasses filling the air, and the occasional shout of triumph from the gaming tables. I moved through the crowd, serving drinks, trying to keep my mind off my plans tomorrow. But fate had other plans. In a moment of distraction, I accidentally spilled a drink on one of the wealthy patrons. "Oh my, I'm so sorry," I apologized, my cheeks flushing with embarrassment. But he wasn't having it. Angrily he called my boss over, and I felt a knot tighten in my stomach. "Look what your waitress did to me," he told him, pointing to the stained spot on his expensive suit. "I'm sorry, Mr. Kayo, it was an accident," I pleaded. But Mr. Kayo refused to accept my apology. "Give her to me tonight, and we’ll call it even," he demanded, his eyes glinting with a predatory hunger. "No," I said firmly, shaking my head. The thought of being bartered like a piece of meat sent chills down my spine. "Listen, Liliana, you have to comply with his requests to avoid potential problems," said my boss, giving his consent. Before I could react, Mr Kayo grabbed me, pulling me toward his body. Panic surged through me, and I struggled against his grip. He became furious and as he raised his hand to hit me, a strong hand shot out, gripping his wrist mid-air. "Now now gentlemen, it hasn't gotten to this has it?" I breathed a sigh of relief as I recognized Jayden Garrettson's voice. “Mr Garrettson,” everyone acknowledged. It appeared that everyone knew him and held him in high regard. He then let go of Mr. Kayo's wrist. “Now what's going on here,” he asked. "This insolent waitress spilled a drink on me," Kayo sneered, pointing at the dark stain spreading across his expensive suit. Jayden, looked at it and nodded in agreement. "She certainly did ruin it, and she has to pay." "Exactly my point," Kayo added, his eyes narrowing at me. I was taken aback by his agreement; I had thought he would stand up for me, but instead, he seemed to be cozying up with them. "Mr. Garrettson," I said, desperation creeping into my voice. "You can't agree with them, for something so little?" “Something so little? Then you should pay him back.” "I... I can't, of course, but..." I stammered, and he cut me off. “But you did ruin his suit, didn't you?" he asked, his tone cold and unyielding. “Yes, but it’s a mistake.” "Then pay for it," he shot at me, and everyone stood there staring at us. Understanding that I'm getting no sympathy from him, I succumb. "Wont you bail me out of this, you do have a deal with me," I pleaded, my heart racing. "Oh really? I can't seem to remember ‘cause I've called you so many times, and you didn't pick up my calls.” He bent to my height and flashed a devilish smile that made my heart flutter both in excitement and fear. “So I'm done with the deal. Let them have their way with you." He said, stepping back from me. Panic surged through me as a hulking bodyguard stepped forward, lifting me effortlessly off the ground. "No, please let me go!" I begged, my voice trembling. But my pleas fell on deaf ears as they ignored my cries, this made me feel utterly abandoned. "Mr. Garrettson, please! I'll do whatever you want. I'll go through with the deal," I cried out in desperation. But he turned his back on me, settled down on a couch, and left me to my fate. As I was carried away, I felt a wave of misery wash over me. My life had become a roller-coaster of trouble, and I was trapped in a loop of despair. The bodyguard took me to a suite above the casino and unceremoniously dumped me onto the bed. Mr. Kayo followed closely behind, a predatory grin on his face as he looked at me. “So you think Mr. Garrettson will come to your aid? Let me tell you, he is actually more devious than I am. But don't worry, I'll be gentle.” After saying that, he reached out to caress my cheek. “No!” I screamed and almost scratched his face, but he took a step back. "Well, well, well, aren't you a feisty little thing," he remarked, licking his lips as he climbed onto the bed. I scooted back, panic flooding my senses. "No, stay away from me!" I cried out, trying to escape, but he caught me easily, tossing me back onto the bed and pinning me down with his body. His breath reeked of alcohol and cigarettes, making me gag as he began to kiss me roughly, his hands roaming over my body. I felt violated, trapped in a nightmare I couldn’t escape. In a moment of desperation, I bit his lip hard, hoping to break free from his grasp. "Ouch!" he exclaimed, pulling back momentarily. But the reprieve was short-lived. 'Cause in a fit of rage, he slapped me hard across the face, the sting of the slap bringing tears to my eyes. "You b***h!" he yelled, his anger palpable. He kissed me again while i cried and As he began tearing my clothes off, I felt a wave of humiliation wash over me. I had never felt so disrespected, so powerless. Just when I thought all hope was lost, the door was flung open. "Let her go, you bastard!" a deep voice commanded, cutting through the chaos like a knife.
