The Moretti family held no funeral. Evelyn's will gave them no ceremony to control. Instead, an emergency board meeting convened twenty stories above the city, in a room of glass and black steel. A small ceramic urn containing the ashes of Evelyn Pierce stood at the center of the table used for billion-dollar deals. Arthur sat in the chairman's seat, unshaven and bent forward. Two days had passed since he carried Evelyn's cold body from the mountain cabin. He had said nothing. Victor stood at the head of the table in a dark suit, acting as executor of Evelyn's will.
