Judith being Judith, nothing could keep her away from her research. She continued perusing those documents, making small notes on the margins, all while Paul was half-draped around her body. Sometimes she would drop her pen and gently scratch at his head. Paul wondered if he seemed like a pet dog to her. At that moment, he didn’t care. Judith, however, was no match for sleep and before midnight, she was yawning loudly. Paul had to snatch the papers away from her, threw them onto the bedside table, and plopped himself onto the bed. He was both teasing and daring her to come to bed, although he prepared himself for a solid rejection. Judith stared down at him, not saying anything. Paul held his breath.
