Leif, bored, yawns while falling back to lay flat on the ground as Sigurd drags on and on about the basics of what happens when receiving one's wolf.
"Leif, are you paying attention?"
He sighs "Yes father but this is boring. I don’t want to talk. I want action. Let's fight!" He smiles jumping up straight up into the air and flexing his muscles, "I want to see exactly how strong I’ve gotten."
Sigurd frowns then a thought strikes him and he smirks, "Alright if you think you're ready."
"Hell yes!" Leif gets into a fighting stance holding his fists by his face bouncing from foot to foot in anticipation.
Sigurd watches him fully smiling now, "If you answer all my questions correctly we'll spar BUT only if you get everything right." He crosses his arms chuckling at the crestfallen face before him.
Leif drops to the ground dramatically groaning, "I should've known it was too good to be true." Sigurd chuckles and Leif sighs again, "Fine. Test me but if I get them right we spar for the rest of the day." Sigurd nods smiling smugly knowing that there’s no way Leif wins the bet.
"First question” he holds up a single finger, “When do we normally get our wolf?"
"18"
He nods then holds up a second finger, "When do they first shift?"
"First full moon after receiving their wolf."
He nods again as a third finger pops up, "Who gifts us our wolf? Barring your weird ass of course"
Leif laughs then adopting a smug look answers, "Selene, the Moon Goddess."
He nods again smiling as a fourth finger pops up, "How do you shift?"
Leif blinks slowly at him while staring at him dumbfounded. "How the f**k am I supposed to know that when I’ve never actually shifted?"
Sigurd smirks again and shrugs, "This is taught to the children when they learn how to meditate to communicate with their wolf. Must have been after you decided to stop going to your lessons." Sigurd shrugs walking off until he hears the telltale crunching sound. He turns around just in time to see the end of Leif shifting into the biggest wolf he’s ever seen.
Skuggi is 20 feet tall all black with shining red eyes. He was menacing with how muscular he was especially with the red and purple aura that’s steadily emanating from him. Sigurd knew just from the look of him that Skuggi was the strongest wolf he has ever come across. Just as that thought crosses his mind Skuggi smiles revealing his sharp teeth and speaks to Sigurd, "I’m an alpha king wolf. There is no wolf alive stronger than me." Sigurd’s eyes shoot up staring at him "How.... How did you know what I was thinking? Wait, wait, how did you just speak to me?"
Skuggi laughs and speaks to him again, "It's one of our gifts, we can talk in wolf form as well."
Sigurd straightens himself out and clears his throat then says "You two really are something."
Skuggi shifts back into a smiling still fully clothed Leif, "So, I guess that means we get to spar for the rest of the day."
Sigurd laughs and agrees "Yeah I guess youdid technically pass the test."
"Father! Where are you?" Frida calls out. She looks throughout the village for hours before she finally remembered he was training with Leif today. She turns heading towards the open area Leif goes for training just outside the training grounds since he isn't allowed to train with the other warriors. She walks straight to the circular area where sticks were cut to create a barrier between the safety of the village and the area for combat.
"There you are Father!" Frida says as she walks up to the both of them splayed out on the ground.
Sigurd opens his eyes and looks up at Frida smiling fondly, "Hello child. What are you doing here?"
"Father it's time for supper. Everyone is waiting for you to begin the feast."
Sigurd shoots up onto his feet and looks around when he realizes the sun is starting to set. "s**t! Come children we can't keep them waiting." Leif groans as he tries to move but his muscles are screaming at him to stop. "Goddess why am I so sore?"
Sigurd stretches and his back pops, "You'll get used to it once you shift more. Your muscles stretch more than you think when you shift so it takes a lot out of you. The more you do it the easier it will be." Leif grunts in response groaning in pain as he stands and they slowly make their way to the longhouse to eat. They walk in silence aside from the constant grunts from Leif when his muscles start to scream at him from overexertion. He sighs in relief once the longhouse is within sight causing Frida and Sigurd to laugh at him, “This is your own fault. You just had to spar after your first shift.” Leif ignores him and pushes himself to move faster leaving the other laughing behind him.
Just as he walks inside the dining hall he smells something that instantly has his mouth watering, it smells floral but sweet. Like roses mostly but with a strong undertone of sweetness. Skuggi instantly perks up inside Leif's mind once the smell hits them and he starts pacing with his tail wagging. "What's going on Skuggi?" Leif says to him in his mind.
"Follow the scent and you will see."
Leif sniffs again and feels his muscles start to relax. He thinks on it for a second wondering what could cause his aching to ease like that just from a smell but shrugs and keeps walking, if it was something bad Skuggi would have warned him, he thought. He follows the scent passing tables of warriors eating roasted meat and vegetables and sweet bread but not the source of the scent. Just as he takes another sniff, he hears a soft female voice behind him, "Mate." He swirls around to see a 5'6" light skinned woman, long red hair with two white steaks draping down on either side of her face, ocean blue eyes, and a full mouth with the most perfect strong yet curvy body.
Leif looks her over as he thinks to himself, Goddess she is the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen.
Once he catches a breath he hadn't realized escaped him he finally smiles and says, "Mate."
