Zadie still recalled Yvonnie's threat and felt that she had humiliated herself. She knew she needed an opportunity to teach Yvonnie a lesson.
Zadie's lips curled coldly as she thought, "I'll let her in again just as I did before, isn't that how it went back then?" Briseida was puzzled and looked towards Zadie in surprise, but Zadie had already left.
Yvonnie's palms were stained with blood as the doctor carefully used tweezers to remove glass fragments and place them on a nearby tray. Yvonnie did her best not to make a sound, but her body trembled slightly each time the tweezers moved.
William watched attentively, his eyebrows furrowing a little every time she flinched. His eyes seemed to follow her every move.
It wasn't until the wound had been treated, and William turned to wash his hands that he said, "Why didn't you come to me?"
He gazed directly at her with an accusatory look. His face appeared pale under the light. Yvonnie had never been injured like this before, and each time a glass fragment was removed, it caused a tightening in his chest.
"Did you want to see me for a trip down memory lane?" Yvonnie raised her eyebrows, in her eyes a clear with a touch of mockery.
William's eyes darkened, and he was about to respond when his phone rang. He looked at the caller ID and picked up the call, "Dad will be back soon, Charlise, be good."
His voice softened for a brief moment, revealing his deep affection for his daughter.
Yvonnie suddenly felt a profound irony. Just half an hour ago, he had told her, "My heart has always belonged to you, darling, how could I care for anyone else?" In reality, the person he truly cared about was elsewhere.
Yvonnie winced, and her bandaged palm throbbed with every movement.
With her good hand, she took out several red bills from her bag and placed them on the table in the examination room. It was her earnings from the night. "This should cover the treatment fee, Mr. Vance."
She made it clear that she didn't owe him any favors, ever.
Yvonnie shot him a sardonic glance and left the examination room. William looked down at the meager stack of bills, hung up the phone, and followed her.
The elevator doors opened in front of Yvonnie, and she stepped inside. When she turned around, she saw William behind her. In the enclosed space of the elevator, their eyes locked.
He stared directly at her as he slowly began to undo the buttons of his suit, one by one.
"What are you doing?" Yvonnie was unsure of his intentions, and the confined space of the elevator began to make her feel anxious.
William lightly pursed his thin lips, and his dark eyes revealed a hint of taunting. He began unbuttoning his white shirt, revealing the scars on his left chest.
Yvonnie's gaze was drawn to the hideous scar, and the memories of the incident from three years ago flooded back. She clenched her fingers together, her face grew pale, and her breathing became unsteady.
An expression of amusement appeared on Yvonnie's face as she said, "Mr. Vance, are you guilt tripping me about the stabbing incident from back then?"
His complexion was exceptionally fair, his skin firm and smooth, making the scar appear even more unappealing and gruesome.
"No," William replied calmly as he fastened his buttons one by one. He took a few steps toward her, standing in front of her. He raised his left arm and rested it against the elevator wall.
"I just want to remind myself of who stabbed me so deeply, so I'll never let her go for the rest of my life."
His eyes were deep and focused, locked onto the person he had thought about endlessly. Life is short, and he intended to hold her tightly for the time they had left.
He was much taller than her, and in the enclosed space of the elevator, Yvonnie began to feel it was harder to breathe, surrounded by his arms and body.
"You better be careful. You never know when I might stab you again and finish the job," Yvonnie misunderstood his intentions, thinking that he intended to spend the rest of his life seeking revenge. Her anger intensified, and she pushed him hard on the chest with her raised hand, wanting to run away.
However, he suddenly grabbed her arm and pinned her against the elevator wall. "As long as it makes you happy."
His familiar breath washed over her, carrying a hint of minty coolness, and he gritted his teeth in silence. The next moment, he held her chin and pressed his lips firmly against hers.
Yvonnie shivered, and as she gazed into eyes involuntarily, all the memories of their past love rushed back. William didn't take things further, but even this fleeting intimacy ignited a deep yearning.
An overwhelming desire surged through their bodies, the passion that had permeated their very bones on countless nights, desiring to merge this familiar body into his own, however, he eventually released her.
"Stop pushing drinks," he whispered as he suddenly pushed her away. He then held her arm with earnest eyes. "From now on, I will support you."
A loud slap echoed in the elevator.
"Vance, who do you think you are? You're the one who kicked me out and told me to clean up my stuff from the house. You're the one who was supposed to support me then, are you out of your mind?!"
