CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE
DEPOSITIONS AND SERENDIPITY
Melanka puffed on her pipe as she listened to the recording Lector had sent of Kadeya’s conversation with Azazel, Semyaza and Ramuell. Her assistant, Cubra, stuck his head in the office, “You have an encrypted message from the Law and Order Directorate.”
Setting her pipe in its holder she said. “Let’s see it.”
He crossed the office and placed the communicator on Melanka’s desk. She gestured for him to close the door and pull up a chair beside her.
She was reasonably certain the message was from Secretary Liam, but it said only:
We need to meet.
Melanka responded:
When would you like to come over?
The response was cryptic:
We need to be more inconspicuous.
Cubra said, “Be careful Chief—until we’re absolutely sure it’s Liam.”
“Mm-hm
